Job Purpose:

BBC Studios DTC is seeking a strategic and analytically driven Director of Audience Performance & Insights to support its streaming services.

Primarily focused on content and programming, this new role will build and embed the frameworks, processes, and insight capabilities needed to create a deeper understanding of content performance, audience behaviour, and subscriber value.

Acting as a trusted partner to senior content and wider business leaders, the successful candidate will synthesize first and third-party data, marketplace intelligence and business performance signals into clear, actionable insights and recommendations that inform content investment and programming strategy in line with wider company goals. The role will support in defining how success is measured, identifying the drivers of acquisition, engagement and retention, draw out insight and elevate the organization’s ability to make faster, more informed decisions to drive impact.

Reporting to the SVP, Consumer Research & Insights, this is a highly visible role within the Strategy, Research & Insights team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Content team, but also with Commercial, Product, Data and Marketing stakeholders to build the organization’s content performance, insight and audience intelligence capability. As part of this, the role will partner especially closely with the Data & Insights team to help define data requirements, influence analytical priorities, and ensure the business has access to the data and measurement frameworks needed to support decision-making.

This is a hands-on leadership role within a fast-growing streaming business. Success requires the ability to operate comfortably at both a strategic and operational level, establishing new insight capabilities while delivering core performance reporting, influencing senior stakeholders, challenging assumptions with evidence, and working directly with data to uncover opportunities and drive action. The successful candidate will combine analytical rigor, commercial and creative judgement and strong storytelling and influencing skills to drive meaningful business impact.

We are looking for an experienced insights leader with a track record of building analytical and insights capabilities and influencing decision-making within streaming, digital media, subscription, or direct-to-consumer businesses.

Responsibilities:

Primary focus - Audience Performance & Insights Generation in Content

· Work in partnership with stakeholders in Programming, Commercial, Marketing, Data & Insights, Research and Strategy to provide high quality, objective, data-driven analysis and audience insight around BBCS DTC’s content offer

· Develop deep expertise in the BritBox and BBC Select content portfolios, audience behaviour and viewing patterns to inform content strategy and decision-making.

· Define content performance metrics, measurement frameworks, dashboards and benchmarks to evaluate content performance, generate actionable insights, and identify opportunities to optimise content investment, scheduling and release strategies in line with overall DTC commercial goals

· Provide objective, evidence-based analysis to evaluate programming performance and understand the factors driving audience acquisition, retention, subscriber value and overall business performance.

· Leverage first-party data, third-party data sources, consumer research, marketplace intelligence, and audience segmentation to generate richer insights into content performance and audience behaviour.

· Help inform commissioning and creative development decisions by synthesizing audience insights and performance data to uncover the creative attributes that drive audience engagement and subscriber value.

· Identify emerging audience trends, content opportunities and areas for growth across BritBox and BBC Select.

· Partner closely with Data & Insights and Product and Research teams to enhance content data assets, improve measurement capabilities, and ensure data quality and accessibility.

Secondary focus – Audience Performance & Insights support for wider business

· Serve as a strategic thought partner across DTC senior leadership and Content, Marketing, Commercial, Strategy and Product teams, designing and delivering analyses and insights that support strategic initiatives, investment decisions and improved business performance.

· Partner closely with Data teams to develop scalable reporting, insight generation and measurement capabilities, ensuring the underlying data infrastructure supports evolving business needs, strategic analysis, forecasting and scenario planning.

· Develop recurring audience performance reviews and narratives that highlight key trends, opportunities, and risks for leadership teams.

· Champion the use of AI-enabled tools and emerging analytical techniques to improve efficiency, insight generation, and decision support.

Key Skills - Communication & Stakeholder Influence

· Turn complex and often ambiguous business questions into structured analyses and insights that inform strategy and drive action.

· Translate complex analyses, methodologies, and performance trends into clear, compelling narratives tailored to audiences ranging from operational teams to senior executives.

· Present insights and recommendations in a concise and influential manner, helping stakeholders understand both performance outcomes and their business implications.

· Shape the narrative around content performance for internal leadership discussions, external partners, producers, co-commissioners, and content showcases where appropriate.

· Champion data-informed decision-making and performance storytelling across the organisation.

· Own projects end-to-end, ensuring analyses are delivered with clarity, accuracy, and measurable business impact.

Knowledge and Experience

· Significant experience in performance analytics, audience analytics, subscriber analytics, business intelligence, insights generation and/or related disciplines within streaming, digital media, subscription, platform, or direct-to-consumer businesses.

· Strong understanding of content performance, audience behaviour, engagement, retention, and subscriber value drivers, ideally gained through close partnership with content, programming, commissioning, acquisitions, or content investment teams.

· Proven ability to translate complex first-party data, third-party data, and marketplace intelligence into actionable insights and business recommendations.

· Demonstrated ability to influence decision-making and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including senior executives.

· Proficiency with analytical tools, including SQL, Python, and related technologies.

· Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools to enhance analytical workflows, accelerate insight generation, improve synthesis, and support data-driven decision-making.

· Experience using analytics and visualisation platforms such as Tableau, Looker, Domo, or similar.

· Experience applying analytical methodologies including segmentation, cohort analysis, benchmarking, experimentation, and performance measurement frameworks.

· Experience partnering across Content, Analytics, Data Engineering, Data Science, Research, and Business Intelligence functions.

· Proven track record of leading complex analytical projects from problem definition through insight generation to business impact.

· Familiarity with predictive modelling and other advanced analytical techniques.

Salary Range: up to $160k base salary + competitive benefits + bonus potential
