As our postgraduate admissions work continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Graduate Admissions Consultant to work directly with students applying primarily for Master’s programmes in the UK and US.

The Role

This is a hands-on admissions consulting and mentoring position.

You will work one-to-one with students throughout the postgraduate application journey: helping them decide what and where to study, assess their competitiveness, strengthen their profile, develop an application strategy and present their academic and professional experience convincingly.

A significant part of the role involves providing detailed, substantive guidance on application materials. You will work closely with students on the content, structure, academic narrative, programme fit and positioning of their applications, often across multiple drafts.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working closely with students and has the judgement, experience and communication skills to provide exceptional postgraduate admissions guidance.

What You Will Do

1. Application Strategy & Programme Selection

Develop an individual postgraduate admissions strategy for each student based on their academic background, interests, experience and longer-term goals.

• Assess students’ academic records, research, internships, professional experience and extracurricular activities.

• Understand their academic interests and career ambitions.

• Help students clarify what they should study when they are considering different subjects or directions.

• Research and recommend appropriate Master’s programmes in the UK and US.

• Develop ambitious but realistic university and programme lists.

• Assess how competitive a student is for individual programmes.

• Explain how different programmes and admissions committees are likely to evaluate their profile.

• Identify weaknesses or gaps in their candidacy and recommend practical ways to address them.

• Develop a coherent overall strategy connecting the student’s previous experience, current interests and future ambitions.

You should be able to explain not simply where a student should apply, but why a particular programme fits them and what they need to do to become a stronger candidate.

2. Student Mentoring & Profile Development

Build strong one-to-one mentoring relationships with students throughout their postgraduate application journey.

For students who begin working with Blue Education before the application cycle, you may advise on areas including:

• Academic development and course selection;

• Further reading and independent academic work;

• Research opportunities;

• Internships and professional experience;

• Relevant extracurricular activities;

• Relationships with potential academic referees;

• GRE or GMAT preparation where appropriate;

• Broader academic and career direction.

You will meet students regularly, review their progress and adapt their strategy as their profile and ambitions develop.

Our objective is to help students become stronger applicants, not simply complete an application process.

3. Detailed Guidance on Application Materials

Provide detailed, hands-on advice on the content and positioning of students’ application materials.

These may include:

• Statements of Purpose;

• Personal Statements;

• Academic and professional CVs;

• Supplementary essays and application questions;

• Recommendation strategy;

• Research proposals where relevant;

• Scholarship applications.

You will work with students through multiple drafts and provide specific, actionable feedback on both what they are saying and how they are positioning themselves.

You will help students:

• Identify the academic, research, professional and extracurricular experiences most relevant to their application.

• Decide what should be emphasised, developed, reduced or removed.

• Build a coherent narrative connecting their previous experience, current academic interests and future goals.

• Articulate intellectual interests with sufficient depth and specificity.

• Explain convincingly why they want to pursue a particular programme.

• Demonstrate meaningful programme fit.

• Position research, internships, employment and other experiences effectively.

• Select appropriate evidence and examples to support the claims they make.

• Address changes in academic direction or unusual aspects of their profile where necessary.

• Improve the logic, coherence and overall persuasiveness of the application.

• Ensure that different parts of the application reinforce one another.

You should be comfortable identifying weak arguments, underdeveloped examples, unclear motivations and ineffective positioning, and giving students detailed guidance on how to improve them. The emphasis is on close engagement with the substance of each application and feedback that materially improves the student’s thinking, positioning and final submission.

4. Application Management & Interview Preparation

Guide students through the complete postgraduate application process.

This includes:

• Developing application timelines and priorities.

• Monitoring university and programme deadlines.

• Ensuring students understand programme-specific requirements.

• Advising on referee selection and recommendation strategy.

• Reviewing the overall consistency and readiness of applications before submission.

• Helping students manage overlapping deadlines and changing application plans.

• Preparing students for postgraduate admissions interviews where required.

Interview preparation may involve mock interviews, discussion of academic interests and previous research, challenging students on their motivations and conducting practice with unfamiliar or difficult questions. The aim is to help students communicate their ideas with greater clarity, confidence and intellectual depth.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone with strong academic credentials, excellent admissions judgement and meaningful professional experience supporting competitive postgraduate applications.

Essential Requirements

Academic Background

A degree from a highly selective, globally leading university is required.

We are particularly interested in graduates of:

• Oxford or Cambridge;

• Ivy League universities;

• Stanford;

• MIT;

or institutions of comparable international academic standing and selectivity.

A postgraduate degree is advantageous but not essential.

Professional Experience

• Approximately 3–5 years of directly relevant experience in postgraduate admissions consulting, university admissions advising or high-level education consulting.

• Substantial experience supporting students applying to competitive Master’s programmes.

• Strong knowledge of both UK and US postgraduate admissions.

• Experience advising applicants targeting highly selective universities and programmes.

• Admissions Judgement

• You should be able to look at a student’s profile and form a clear independent view about:

• Which programmes genuinely suit them;

• Where they should apply;

• Which options are realistic and where they could be more ambitious;

• What is missing from their profile;

• How they can strengthen their candidacy;

• Which experiences should form the centre of their application;

• How they should position themselves to an admissions committee.

We are looking for strong professional judgement and the ability to develop genuinely individualised strategies for each student.

Communication & Mentoring

You should have:

• Excellent written and spoken English.

• Strong one-to-one mentoring skills.

• The confidence to challenge ambitious students constructively.

• The ability to explain complicated admissions decisions clearly.

• Strong analytical reading skills.

• The ability to give detailed, specific and actionable feedback on written applications.

• Strong interpersonal skills when working with students and, where appropriate, their families.

Organisation & Ownership

You should be highly organised, reliable and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple applications and deadlines simultaneously.

You will be expected to take ownership of individual student cases and work independently while maintaining consistently high standards.

Nice to Have

The following would be advantageous:

• Experience advising on MBA applications.

• Familiarity with leading UK, US and European MBA programmes.

• Knowledge of GMAT and GRE requirements.

• Experience with research-intensive Master’s applications.

• Experience supporting applicants across a range of academic disciplines.

• Experience studying or working in both the UK and US.

• Experience working with international students.

• Mandarin Chinese language ability.

• Experience working with Chinese students or families.
