Job Summary:
The Service Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and inspecting school transportation vehicles to ensure they meet safety, regulatory, and operational standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Performs routine checks on engines, drivetrains, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, and safety equipment.
Diagnose and repair mechanical and electronic issues, including diesel/gasoline/propane engines, transmissions, hydraulics, HVAC and electrical systems.
Ensure vehicles meet DOT, state, and local safety regulations, including steering and suspension work, tire repair, and accident repairs.
Maintain fleet appearance, document work, and report maintenance needs to operations staff.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to read job orders and diagnosis issues.
Ability to work with other repairers within service shop.
Thorough understanding of methods and procedures to maintenance vehicles.
Thorough understanding of how to use tools required for the trades.
Proficiency with hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and preventive maintenance procedures.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field.
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. CDL preferred.
Physical Requirements:
You must supply your own general hand tools.
Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and safety inspections.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds at times.
