Position Title - Mechanic II
Department - Maintenance
Reports To - Maintenance Lead / Maintenance Manager
Location - Pasco, WA (on-site; may support Walla Walla or Yakima as needed)
Schedule - Monday – Friday, Swing Shift 1:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Position Summary
The Mechanic II is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repair work on company vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations. This position supports fleet reliability by assisting with maintenance schedules, completing repairs, maintaining compliance with DOT/WUTC standards, and promoting a safe work environment. The Mechanic II works under the direction of the Maintenance Lead and serves all Basin Disposal geographic locations and operational divisions as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities - Preventative Maintenance
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) services based on mileage, hours, and company maintenance schedules
Conduct Annual Vehicle Inspection Reports (AVIR) and preventative maintenance inspections
Lubricate chassis and high-wear components
Perform oil and filter changes, fluid checks, and top-offs
Service fuel systems, hydraulic systems, and transmissions
Inspect and maintain CNG systems and compressors
Complete maintenance reports, inspections, and work orders accurately and timely
Maintain DOT and WUTC compliance standards
Repairs & Diagnostics
Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues
Repair or replace hydraulic hoses, seals, gaskets, brakes, drums, and lighting systems
Perform basic electrical troubleshooting and repairs
Assist in evaluating equipment condition and determining repair feasibility
Participate in troubleshooting equipment failures and recommending corrective actions
Shop & Facility Responsibilities
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
Safely operate shop equipment and fleet vehicles
Follow all company safety policies and PPE requirements
Collaboration & Team Responsibilities
Accurately complete maintenance documentation and repair orders
Work collaboratively with drivers, operations, and maintenance personnel
Perform additional duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications - Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred
Minimum 2 years of mechanical maintenance experience preferred
Basic knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems
Ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment
Ability to lift, bend, climb, and work in various weather conditions
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
CDL or ability to obtain CDL
ASE certifications or related technical training
Experience with refuse trucks, heavy equipment, or fleet maintenance
Knowledge of DOT inspection requirements and compliance standards
Experience with CNG systems and compressors
Physical Requirements
Frequently lift up to 50 pounds
Stand, kneel, crouch, and work under vehicles for extended periods
Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, grease, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures
Ability to safely use tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop machinery
Work Environment
This position works primarily in a maintenance shop environment and may require outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Employees must follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Compensation & Benefits
Pay: $27.91 - $33.15 per hour DOE.
