The Med Tech is primarily responsible for safely administering medications in accordance with state regulations and facility policies. When not administering medications, this position will coordinate with CNAs to assist with resident assignments, as needed.
The schedule for this position will be 3p-11p, 5 days per week.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:
Medication Administration
Accurately and timely administer medications according to physician orders and facility protocols, while observing for side effects.
Document medication administration in electronic records clearly, accurately, and promptly.
Report medication errors or adverse reactions immediately, per policy and regulatory requirements.
Assist with ordering, receiving, storing, and organizing medications.
Communicate effectively with nurses, pharmacy, and clinical leadership regarding medication needs and/or concerns.
Participate in care plan meetings and shift handoffs as needed.
Resident Care
Assist residents with activities of daily living, personal hygiene, and other individual needs, including help with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, dental care, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, and other needs in accordance with the individual’s care plan requirements.
Assist residents in preparing for scheduled appointments and planned activities including physicians’ visits, religious services, shopping, or other outings.
Assist in dining, both in the dining room and the resident’s room as appropriate. Assist with tray set-up, assure that food is easily accessible, assistive devices are in place, and food is arranged for visually impaired residents. Personally feed residents where indicated. Remove trays or dishes in a timely manner and perform after-meal care as required.
Provide care that maintains each resident’s skin integrity to prevent pressure ulcers, skin tears, and other damage by changing incontinent residents, turning, and repositioning immobile residents, and applying moisturizers to fragile skin.
Observe residents for changes in condition or behavior and report these changes to the appropriate licensed nurse.
Transport residents to and from meals, therapy, church services and activities or for other purposes as required.
Understand and practice all aspects of residents’ rights including the maintenance of comfort, privacy, communication, and dignity in the delivery of services to them.
QualificationsEducational/Professional Qualifications:
High School diploma/equivalent required.
Current Florida certification as a Medication Technician required.
CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Experience in working as a CNA in a long-term senior living facility required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Possess math skills sufficient to do basic calculations regarding weight, volume and distance.
Able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people.
Able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Able to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other team members.
