Job Description
AV has an opening for a Research Technician within the Health and Performance Technologies Division. This is an on-site position supporting the Directed Energy Bioeffects Division of the 711th Human Performance Wing, located at Joint Base San Antonio. The position will support the biological research projects focused on the bioeffects of laser weapons exposure.
In this role, the successful candidate will perform, analyze and report bioeffects data related to laser exposure and wounding, using advanced cellular models including immortalized and primary cells, tissue organoids, transwell and advanced co-culture systems. Along with a strong background in in vitro laboratory work, the ideal candidate will have excellent organizational, communication, and record-keeping skills. This role involves working collaboratively with the team to perform a variety of assays, including library preparations, barrier integrity assessments, cell viability tests, DNA/RNA extractions, and other in vitro assays. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with strong time management skills, the ability to work independently and a track record of project execution. Flexibility and a positive attitude toward shifting priorities and evolving schedules are also important, as research timelines and project focus areas are dynamic.
Key responsibilities include:
Execute experiments utilizing cellular models and complex exposure systems
Characterize and assess various experiments using in vitro assays to quantify toxicity, metabolic activity, morphology, RNA transcripts, as well as other cellular functions.
Maintain and propagate mammalian cell cultures using aseptic techniques.
Analyze, interpret, and report experimental data.
Collaborate with internal teams, external collaborators, and government scientists to ensure timely delivery of research products.
Qualifications:
U.S. Citizenship Required
B.S in a biological discipline, such as Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Microbiology, Immunology, or Biomedical Engineering, with 2-5 years of direct laboratory experience. Experience with ocular and dermal models is highly desired
A laboratory background in in vitro and cell culture techniques, including --but not limited to --assisting with experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and ensuring compliance with safety and good laboratory practice.
Data analysis skills, with proven ability to process and interpret data. Biostatistics experience is desired.
The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to adapt and perform in a fast-paced team-based environment.
ITAR Requirement:
This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”).
