Undergraduate Teaching Assistants are responsible for grading assignments, quizzes, and laboratory reports based on faculty-developed rubrics. They support various statistics courses across different levels of study.
Applicants must have earned at least a B+ in the course they wish to grade and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Preference is given to students majoring or minoring in Statistics.
Approval of remote and hybrid work is not guaranteed regardless of work location. For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see Notice to Out of State Applicants.
The Department of Statistics has multiple vacancies available for students to serve as Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UTA).
Courses may include:
Statistic UTA’s will be involved with the grading of assignments for a given class based on a scoring rubric developed by the supervising faculty member. These might include daily problems, quizzes, pre-lab assignments, or laboratory reports. Qualified applicants should have taken the course they will be grading and earned at least a B+ or better and must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Also, they should have good communication and interpersonal skills, be reliable and organized and have excellent time management skills.
Preference will be given to students majoring or minoring in Statistics. Please upload a cover letter, resume, and a recent transcript with your application. Applications will be received on an ongoing basis and reviewed as the need arises.
