The Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School (AoH), established in 1985, provides adult education, workforce training, and college and career transition services to adult learners in Washington, DC. Our mission is to support adult learners in changing their lives and transforming their communities by providing high-quality adult education and career training that create direct pathways to economic mobility.
AoH is hiring for multiple part-time instructional and instructional-support positions across our Adult Education and Workforce Academy programs, including subject-area instructors, industry-credential instructors, teaching assistants, and tutors. Each position has its own schedule, certification, and experience requirements, detailed below.

OPEN POSITIONS
Teaching Assistant / Tutor — IT Programs
Schedule: Varies by class assignment; primarily evening and lab sessions
Teaching Assistants support instructors during class by taking attendance, monitoring the Zoom chat, assisting students with course tools (Canvas, CertMaster), and helping in breakout rooms or the computer lab.
Tutors work with students individually or in small groups, often outside class hours, to reinforce course content and study skills.
Qualifications: comfort with technology and virtual learning tools (Zoom, LMS platforms); strong communication skills; tutoring, mentoring, or IT background helpful.
Workforce Academy Evening Math Instructor
Schedule: Tuesday & Thursday, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Delivers applied math instruction connected to healthcare, IT, and workplace applications, preparing learners for entry into AoH's workforce training programs.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required (Education, Mathematics, or related field preferred); experience teaching adult learners or GED/developmental education preferred.
Workforce Academy Evening Reading Instructor
Schedule: Monday & Wednesday, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Delivers reading comprehension, vocabulary, and workplace communication instruction that prepares learners for AoH's workforce training programs.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required (Education, English, Reading, or related field preferred); experience teaching adult learners or GED/developmental education preferred.
Certified Apartment Leasing Professional (CALP) Instructor
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (evening, in-person)
Teaches CALP coursework covering apartment leasing, customer service, Fair Housing, and property management operations, preparing learners for industry certification.
Qualifications: current CALP certification required; minimum 2 years of experience in apartment leasing or residential property management; teaching or training experience strongly preferred.
Project Management Instructor (CAPM/PMP)
Schedule: Monday–Thursday evenings preferred (hybrid: live online + in-person); additional daytime/weekend sections possible
Prepares adult learners for the CAPM and PMP certification exams, covering the project lifecycle, process groups, Agile concepts, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
Qualifications: current CAPM or PMP certification required (PMP strongly preferred); minimum 3 years of project management experience; 1+ year of teaching, training, or coaching experience preferred.
Nurse Aide Training (NAT/CNA) Instructor
Schedule: Daytime (Mon–Thu, 10:00 AM–2:30 PM) or Evening (Mon–Thu, 5:00–9:00 PM), plus required clinical rotation days each term
Delivers classroom, skills lab, and clinical instruction preparing learners for the DC Nurse Aide certification exam and entry-level healthcare employment.
Qualifications: graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; current DC RN or LPN license and BSN required; minimum 2 years of full-time clinical experience; minimum 1 year of teaching or staff development experience.
CompTIA A+ Instructor
Schedule: Daytime (Mon–Thu, 10:30 AM–2:30 PM) or Evening (Mon–Thu, 5:00–9:00 PM), hybrid
Teaches CompTIA A+ Core 1 and Core 2 objectives, including PC hardware, operating systems, networking fundamentals, and troubleshooting, using AoH's standardized curriculum.
Qualifications: current CompTIA A+ certification required; minimum 3 years of IT-related experience; minimum 1–2 years of teaching experience with adult learners.
CompTIA Security+ Instructor
Schedule: Evening, Monday–Thursday, 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Teaches CompTIA Security+ certification objectives covering cybersecurity fundamentals, networking, and systems administration.
Qualifications: current CompTIA Security+ certification required; Network+ certification or equivalent networking experience strongly preferred; minimum 3 years of experience in cybersecurity, networking, or systems administration.
CompTIA Tech+ Instructor
Schedule: Daytime (Mon–Thu, 10:30 AM–2:00 PM) or Evening (Mon–Thu, 6:00–9:00 PM)
Teaches foundational IT concepts aligned to CompTIA Tech+ (or ITF+) certification objectives.
Qualifications: current CompTIA Tech+ certification preferred (ITF+ accepted); CompTIA A+ strongly preferred; minimum 3 years of IT-related experience; minimum 1–2 years of teaching experience with adult learners.
Phlebotomy Technician Instructor
Schedule: Daytime (Mon–Thu, 10:00 AM–2:00 PM) or Evening (Mon–Thu, 5:00–9:00 PM); on-site at Northeast or Southeast DC locations
Delivers classroom and hands-on lab instruction preparing learners for the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam and entry-level healthcare employment.
Qualifications: current Phlebotomy Technician certification required; minimum 3 years of experience as a Phlebotomy Technician; minimum 2 years of teaching, training, or mentoring experience in healthcare or adult education.
Medical Billing and Coding Instructor
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Ward 5 campus; Fall–Spring term (approximately August–June)
Teaches medical terminology, ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS coding, insurance billing, and HIPAA compliance, preparing learners for CPC, CBCS, and/or CMAA certification.
Qualifications: current Medical Billing and Coding certification required (CPC, CBCS, CMAA, or related); minimum 3 years of experience in medical billing and coding; minimum 2 years of teaching or training experience in healthcare or adult education preferred.
