About the Job:

Under the direction of the Director of Engineering, the Platform Product Engineer acts as a high-leverage technical leader bridging robust platform architecture and product-centric AI innovation. This role handles high-stakes ambiguity and complexity, balancing scalable infrastructure and platform foundation work with the direct delivery of user-facing AI product features. The Platform Product Engineer collaborates closely with Product, Architecture, and Platform leads to convert complex business requirements into high-integrity technical plans, advancing Zone’s product vision by engineering reliable AI features and agentic workflows embedded within a scalable, production-grade platform.

Essential Job Functions

• Architect and deliver complex, high-value platform systems and customer-facing AI product features across the Zone platform, ensuring high performance, observability, and scalability.
• Balance core platform engineering responsibilities with product engineering priorities, translating business and user needs into seamless technical execution.
• Design and maintain foundational platform infrastructure to empower product teams to build, test, and ship AI-native capabilities rapidly and safely.
• Drive the engineering of automated validation frameworks to verify AI-generated features and core business logic against strict financial standards.
• Anticipate architectural pressure points and resolve bottlenecks before they impact roadmap delivery.
• Champion the use of modern coding tools, agentic SDLC, and product-focused AI workflows to maximize engineering velocity and product quality.
• Stay current with emerging AI technologies and research, recommending innovative approaches
• Manage time effectively to meet project deadlines and deliverables

Responsibilities / Duties / Tasks

• Architect, deploy, and support production-grade platform infrastructure and AI product features, including agentic workflows and interactive user experiences.
• Decompose vague software requirements into staged execution plans that mitigate risk and enhance delivery predictability.
• Establish and maintain robust automated validation and verification discipline for AI models and business logic.
• Proactively refactor fragile path areas and maintain exemplary code quality in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and associated AI frameworks.
• Translate technical debt and architectural tradeoffs into clear business consequences for engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Integrate AI/ML models with existing backend and frontend systems
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through rigorous design guidance, thorough code reviews, and the promotion of AI-native best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers
• Contribute to the evaluation and adoption of new infrastructure or cloud services for AI workloads
• Manage and optimize AWS services including ECS, Lambda, Postgres, DynamoDB, S3, Bedrock, and Amplify for scalable AI and platform infrastructure
• Communicate outcomes, technical details, and challenges to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Maintain a strong commitment to data quality, privacy, and ethical AI development
• Engage in ongoing learning and professional development aligned with Zone & Co’s strategic objectives

Job Qualifications / Skill Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience in the Fintech domain, with a strong focus on platform development, ERP integrations, or SaaS applications.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) to accelerate development and design robust AI features.
• Strong programming proficiency in Python and JavaScript/TypeScript with proven experience handling complex backend architecture.
• Strong database skills, both relational (i.e. SQL) and non-relational storage
• Proven ability to lead complex projects from ambiguity to successful production delivery in an asynchronous, globally distributed environment.
• Required hands-on expertise with AWS platform services (including ECS, Lambda, Postgres, DynamoDB, S3, Bedrock, and Amplify), cloud infrastructure management, and deployment pipelines for scalable AI workloads.
• Strong judgment in verification discipline and experience designing automated testing solutions for high-consequence business logic.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills in English
• Passion for innovation and creating value through technology
• Proficiency in AI-assisted coding, including building and maintaining custom skills and integrating with Model Context Protocols (MCPs) for tools like Jira.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with data science principles and hands-on experience with model tuning.

Candidates will collaborate with interviewers on an interactive system design exercise, sketching out high-level architecture and discussing modern implementation approaches. Access to an AI coding assistant (such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) during the interview is recommended, as we value leveraging AI tools to solve complex system problems effectively.
