The bus driver for summer resident camp is responsible for the safe transportation of campers and staff from different camps, program sites, field trips, and events. This position often involves active engagement with children and camp staff. This role is also responsible for assisting with activities, general camp operations, or other areas as assigned when not driving.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
Abide by all traffic laws while driving

You are solely responsible for any traffic tickets incurred and depending on the nature of the violation, it could lead to dismissal.

Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out bus each day.
Maintain all required documentation in an orderly and neat fashion (i.e. routing sheets, mileage records, etc.).
Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
Assist with other program areas, camp operations/maintenance, etc. while not driving.
Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS

Minimum age is 21 years.
Current California CDL with Airbrakes & Passenger Endorsement, and copy of 10 yr. driving record
Previous experience of driving a school bus.
Previous experience of driving a school bus in mountain settings.
Current CPR/ 1st Aid/ AED Certification
Clean motor vehicle record which meets Association Transportation Policy
Experience in the operation of vehicles and safe driving practices
Staff will need to be available for the training required and meetings taking place during the month of June, before camp starts. New Hire Training: June 1-6, 2026
Strong character values, communication skills, and emotional maturity
Ability to read and understand maps and written instructions
Must adhere to Association Transportation Drug & Alcohol Substance Abuse Testing Policy requirements.
Must be able to successfully complete YMCA Driver Onboarding requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Have the physical capacity to lift and carry delivery Hot & Cold boxes and any other such equipment as needed (Up to 40lbs)
Ability to walk up stairs without constraint while making deliveries
