STARTING SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

ASSOCIATION AND BRANCH INFORMATION: The YMCA of Greater Long Beach is a $43m organization with 900 employees, including 340 benefits-eligible staff. The Los Cerritos YMCA branch is $3.1m and has 60+ full-time and part-time staff. Los Cerritos YMCA serves Bellflower, Cerritos, Artesia, Paramount, and surrounding communities through programs and services that strengthen youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The branch provides a welcoming community hub for members and families, with a focus on high-quality youth and family programming, and community partnerships. The Los Cerritos YMCA is also preparing to add an outdoor pool this fall, creating an important opportunity to expand aquatics, safety around water, swim instruction, and community wellness programming. The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership for branch operations, staff development, volunteer engagement, membership growth, financial performance, facility stewardship, and partnership development.

GENERAL OVERVIEW: Responsible for the overall leadership and operation of the Los Cerritos YMCA, including board development, membership growth and retention, marketing, programs, staff development, financial management, community relations, and strategic partnerships. Must inspire and engage staff, volunteers, and members in support of the Y’s mission. Demonstrated success in financial management, sustaining the nonprofit model while driving growth. Provide dynamic, goal-driven leadership that ensures a high-quality, consistent member experience. Requires strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and the ability to lead through change. Must exemplify the Y’s core values - caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility - in all actions and decisions.

PREFERRED CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATES: Education & Certifications: Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Arts degree required; master’s degree preferred. YMCA Branch Leader certificate required within three years from date of hire.

Experience & Background: 8 or more years of progressive management experience, preferably in a YMCA or nonprofit setting with complex branch operations. Strong ability to lead operations independently with a proven track record in membership and program growth. Skilled in building community partnerships; experience with facility development, aquatics expansion, capital planning, or major operational transitions preferred. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations and thrive in a high-demand, high-reward environment. Confident and decisive leadership is essential.

KEY FOCUS AREAS:

  • Branch growth, community engagement, and aquatics expansion
  • Coordinates the development of the Branch Board and committees. Directs the volunteer activities (policy and program) of the branch.
  • Directs strategic planning efforts and develops the annual operating plan of the branch.
  • Directs the financial development activities of the branch.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the branch operating budget; meets or exceeds budget targets.
  • Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in the service delivery area.
  • Oversee the hiring, training, supervision, and development of staff.
  • Develops and directs high-quality member engagement strategies and programs that support branch and association mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Directs branch marketing and communication efforts.
  • Supports aquatics planning and operational readiness connected to the outdoor pool addition.
  • Directs association-wide programs and initiatives as needed.
  • Serves as a member of the association’s executive council and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight for programs and initiatives across the entire association.

LIVING AREA: The Los Cerritos YMCA is in Bellflower and serves a diverse Southeast Los Angeles County region that includes the cities of Bellflower, Cerritos, Artesia, and Paramount. This vibrant service area is home to a multicultural population representing a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
