As a critical link between Wilson Lumber and its customers, the Truss Delivery Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently delivering trusses and other building materials to customer sites while upholding the company’s mission and Christlike principles.
Drivers operate Class A Day Cab tractors with specialized roll-off trailers that may extend up to 74 feet in length. This position supports Wilson Lumber’s commitment to safety, customer service, and on-time and in-full deliveries.
Scope of the Position
Drivers are responsible for local and regional deliveries of roof trusses, floor trusses, LVLs, and other building materials. The position requires daily driving, physical activity, and the ability to safely operate large commercial vehicles.
Occasional overnight travel may be required to support deliveries from other Wilson Lumber locations.
Responsibilities
Professionalism: Represent Wilson Lumber professionally when interacting with customers, contractors, job-site personnel, and the public.
Delivery and Unloading: Verify, secure, transport, and deliver trusses and other building materials to the correct job site. Operate forklifts and other unloading equipment as required and when properly trained.
Safety and Compliance: Complete required vehicle inspections, properly secure loads, and follow applicable DOT/FMCSA regulations, state and federal laws, and company safety standards.
Customer Service: Confirm delivery locations, communicate professionally with customers, and obtain required signatures and photographs.
Communication: Promptly notify dispatch and management of product damage, delivery discrepancies, delays, unsafe conditions, or site access concerns.
Scheduling and Efficiency: Follow assigned routes and delivery schedules while supporting safe, accurate, and efficient deliveries.
Documentation: Maintain required driver logs, inspection records, and delivery documentation.
QualificationsPosition Qualifications
Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Minimum of 2 years of verifiable Class A CDL driving experience.
Acceptable driving record and ability to meet company insurance requirements.
Previous oversized/wide-load, truss, flatbed, roll-off, or building-material delivery experience preferred.
Ability to safely operate large commercial vehicles in varying roads, weather, yard, and construction-site conditions.
Strong communication, judgment, dependability, and customer-service skills
Physical Requirements
Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to frequently enter and exit commercial vehicles and delivery equipment.
Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and perform load securement and equipment inspections as required.
Ability to sit and operate a commercial motor vehicle for extended periods.
Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and job-site conditions.
