What the opportunity looks like:

Administers, secures and continuously improves the organisation's core IT infrastructure, network services, cloud platforms and backup and disaster recovery solutions, in line with company security standards, compliance obligations and IT operational procedures, so that business-critical systems remain secure, resilient and available to all company locations.

The role acts as a technical escalation point for complex infrastructure, network and security issues and contributes to the delivery of infrastructure, cyber security and business technology projects.

  • Administer, maintain and continuously improve the server, virtualisation, storage, backup and disaster recovery platforms, including the VxRail hyper-converged infrastructure and VMware Disaster Recovery, so that resilience and business continuity requirements are consistently met.

  • Manage and support the network infrastructure – including Cisco Meraki, switching, routing, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls, voice services and site connectivity – to deliver secure, reliable and performant connectivity across all sites.

  • Administer and maintain the Microsoft 365 and Entra ID (Azure AD) environment, including identity management, access controls and hybrid services, ensuring access is granted and governed in line with security policy.

  • Manage and support Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft 365 messaging services, and administer SQL Server environments, providing database and reporting support where required.

  • Support cyber security activity in consultation with the Head of Business Systems – including vulnerability remediation, security reviews and hardening – to reduce technical risk across the estate.

  • Own the day-to-day relationship with the Managed Extended Detection and Response (MXDR) provider, co-ordinating the investigation, escalation and remediation of security events through to closure.

  • Contribute to internal and external audit and compliance activity, including Cyber Essentials Plus and ITGC, by providing evidence, remediating findings and maintaining accurate technical documentation and operational procedures.

  • Develop and maintain PowerShell automation to improve operational efficiency, reporting and routine system administration.

  • Provide technical escalation support to the Service Desk, taking ownership of complex incidents through to resolution and feeding fixes back into knowledge and process documentation.

  • Participate in infrastructure, cyber security and business technology projects, working with internal colleagues, vendors and support partners to ensure successful delivery and clean transition into support.

Skills and experience that will help you be a success:

For this role we're looking for:

  • Demonstrable hands-on experience administering Windows Server, virtualisation, storage, backup and disaster recovery platforms in a business-critical environment.

  • Practical knowledge of hyper-converged infrastructure (e.g. VxRail) and cloud-based disaster recovery services.

  • Strong networking knowledge covering switching, routing, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls, VPN and site connectivity, ideally including Cisco Meraki.

  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 and Entra ID (Azure AD), including identity, access management and hybrid services.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange / Microsoft 365 messaging and of SQL Server administration and reporting.

  • Scripting and automation capability, particularly PowerShell.

  • Understanding of cyber security principles, vulnerability management, endpoint and detection tooling, and working with a managed detection and response provider.

  • Familiarity with audit and compliance frameworks such as Cyber Essentials Plus and IT General Controls.

  • Relevant technical qualifications or vendor certifications (for example Microsoft, Cisco/Meraki, VMware or security certifications) are desirable; equivalent practical experience will be considered.

  • A strong understanding of how technology enables business operations, and the ability to deliver reliable, secure and scalable IT services.
