Who Are You?

Reporting to the Journeyperson (JM) Fabricator, the Apprentice Fabricator plays a key supporting role in the fabrication process while developing the skills and knowledge required to become a qualified fabricator. Working under the guidance and mentorship of experienced fabricators, the apprentice assists with the safe and efficient completion of daily fabrication tasks.


What you will do 

  • Assists fabricators in the completion of daily fabrication tasks
  • Review directions, blueprints and work orders and confer understanding with senior fabricator 
  • Assist with the assembly and fitting of metal sections and plates together
  • Learn to fasten components together (by mechanical means or tack weld) in preparation for a welder to complete the process 
  • Operate equipment and uses various other tools and hand grinders
  • Learn to operate forklifts, jibs and cranes
  • Safety conscious with full participation in the safety program and all safety requirements
  • Perform other duties as needed

 

Sound Familiar

  • Knowledge of general safety practices, basic tools and equipment
  • Physically fit to lift items weighing up to 20kg
  • Mechanically inclined, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination skills
  • Able to learn measurement skills and dimensions
  • Math and computer skills
  • Passed Metal Fabrication Foundation Program is an asset
  • Previous steel fabrication experience 
  • Crane & rigging experience is idea
