Wallace Montgomery is looking for a Senior Construction Inspector to join our team and project in Roanoke, Virginia, with remote reporting to supervisors in Richmond, Virginia. Construction Inspectors inspect, observe, and document construction and maintenance projects; performing tests on soils and materials. Work is performed under the supervision of a Project Engineer. In most cases, an Inspector's day to day direct supervisor may be a client's direct employee. Construction Inspectors have many categories that range from an entry level inspector to a senior inspector. All Inspectors are required to travel and be available to work in any part of the State, subject to change of assignments, as work requires. We work when the contractor works. Inspectors are required to have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Inspectors must also be able to work night shift when required.

Essential Functions: include the following.

Performs field inspections of construction and maintenance projects and of existing roadways, structures and facilities.
Conducts and/or observe and document test on soils, asphalt, concrete, aggregates, bituminous products, metal products and industrial coatings.
Responds to data requests.
Participated in traffic control activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Fill out the Inspector's Daily Report (IDR) which memorializes all labor, equipment, and material used on the project each day.
Maintain daily progress photos of the work.
Fill out Force Account records when there is an unresolved change, but the changed work still must be performed.
Maintain a Sketchbook that contains a variety of construction documentation.
Participate in the reconciliation of pay quantities on progress payments submitted by the Contractor.
Attend all meetings, as needed and appropriate.
When appropriate, participate in change order negotiations.
When appropriate, participate in CPM schedule meetings.

QualificationsQualifications

High school diploma/GED
Valid driver's license (company vehicle provided
Seven (7) years of experience in mix of types of projects including, but not limited to interstate widening, bridges, paving, soils, or heavy equipment
VDOT transportation project experience preferred

The eleven (11) core certifications (VDOT required Certifications) listed below shall be maintained in active status throughout the life of the contract.

Soil and Aggregate Compaction - NICET LEVEL II

Asphalt Field Level I

Asphalt Field Level II

Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field - ACI Concrete Field Level I, or WACEL Concrete I, or NICET LEVEL II

Pavement Marking

GRIT (Guardrail Certification)
Certification for Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection - Virginia DEQ
Stormwater Management (Inspector) Certification - Virginia DEQ
Nuclear Gauge Safety Training - Nuclear Regulatory Commission Recognized Provider
Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control - VDOT Approved Provider
10 Hour OSHA Safety Training – OSHA
