Vorteq Coil Finishers is hiring a Payroll & Accounts Payable Accountant to join our fast-growing team.
Job Overview
The Payroll & Accounts Payable Accountant reports to the Corporate Controller in the Finance Department and is responsible for providing payroll processing and accounting, accounts payable processing and accounting and other administrative and clerical services. This position focuses on performing all activities necessary to process payrolls for three separate pay groups and will support and supplement the centralized accounts payable function. The candidate will process payroll and accounts payable accurately and on time, maintain payroll and other company records, resolve discrepancies and ensure compliance with all applicable laws for the company's approximately 375 employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform the day-to-day processing of Payroll transactions to ensure Payroll records are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner
- Process weekly hourly non-union and union payrolls and semimonthly salaried payroll
- Ensure payroll is processed using the most recent and complete information
- Maintain complete and accurate payroll files and records for all locations, including payroll reports, tax information, and supporting documents
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws
- Demonstrate a full understanding of payroll and supporting systems, and being the company's go-to-people in support of these systems including updating and implementing systems
- Verify transactions comply with financial policies and procedures.
- Distribute monthly reports, as required.
- Administer the 401(k) plan or other benefits as required
- Work closely with the 401k provider to ensure current and accurate information is utilized when processing each payroll
- Assist with the annual 401k audit
- Complete quarterly Census reporting
Assist Accounts Payable:
- Voucher select vendor invoices accurately and timely.
- Assist in ad hoc Accounts Payable tasks and projects, as assigned.
Support the Finance Department with other projects as assigned, including backup for peers, month end accounting duties, and special projects.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly personal work area
- Participate in all continuous improvement programs by offering suggestions and initiatives in areas within direct control
- Comply with state and federal law safety regulations in addition to VORTEQ health, safety and security procedures.

COMPETENCIES/QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Acts with the utmost confidentiality.
- Excellent, time management, organizational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to multitask and prioritize tasks between 3 different payroll groups
- Strong computer skills including payroll processing software - iSolved preferred.
- Ability to successfully pass a post-offer background check, physical and drug screen
- Exhibits independent thinking and sound judgment, accompanied by proven problem solving
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with team members and managers/supervisors
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
3 plus years payroll specific experience, Minimum Associate's degree with Bachelor's preferred. Knowledge of payroll and general accounting. Computer skills including the ability to operate payroll software, excel, word processing programs, and email at a highly proficient level.

The successful candidate will be expected to endure work tasks in an office environment (hybrid and flexible working arrangements included) and use a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. The employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. They must occasionally be able to lift/carry up to 20 lbs. and wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, safety toe boot/shoe whenever within the manufacturing plant.
