Job Summary:

Visual Edge IT is looking for a strategic, technically driven Director, Sales Engineering to lead and elevate our pre-sales technical organization. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a proven Sales Engineering or Solutions Architecture executive who knows how to turn complex customer requirements into scalable, innovative technology solutions—and build the teams and processes that consistently deliver them.

In this role, you’ll shape the strategy, standards, and operating model for Sales Engineering while partnering closely with Sales, Product Management, and Service Delivery. You’ll help ensure our technical teams engage customers effectively throughout the sales lifecycle, from discovery and solution design through proposals, presentations, and successful handoffs.

This is more than a team leadership role. You’ll have the opportunity to build a world-class Sales Engineering function, strengthen technical sales execution, create repeatable solution design practices, and directly influence revenue growth and the customer experience across a multi-regional organization.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Sales Engineering organization, building a high-performing team grounded in accountability, collaboration, continuous learning, customer focus, and operational excellence.
  • Develop team capabilities through strategic talent acquisition, mentoring, professional development, and technical enablement.
  • Lead the technical pre-sales function across discovery, qualification, solution architecture, proposal development, presentations, and sales support.
  • Partner with Sales leadership to align technical resources and engagement strategies with strategic business priorities and customer opportunities.
  • Establish consistent methodologies and best practices for technical discovery, qualification, solution development, and technical sales execution.
  • Establish solution architecture standards, frameworks, documentation practices, and governance to improve consistency, quality, scalability, and customer outcomes.
  • Provide executive-level oversight for complex, strategic, non-standard, or high-risk solution opportunities.
  • Partner with Product Management and Service Delivery to incorporate customer feedback, market trends, and operational insights into solution development and technical sales practices.
  • Oversee processes for technical proposals, solution documentation, statements of work, solution presentations, scoping, and quoting.
  • Ensure customer-facing technical deliverables are accurate, consistent, compelling, and aligned with customer requirements and implementation realities.
  • Ensure solution assumptions, implementation considerations, risks, dependencies, and technical exceptions are clearly identified and appropriately documented.
  • Partner cross-functionally to improve workflows, tools, documentation standards, CRM utilization, and sales-to-service handoff processes.
  • Use data, reporting, and performance insights to support resource planning, decision-making, operational improvements, and organizational scalability.
  • Lead initiatives that improve technical sales efficiency, solution quality, customer experience, and overall execution throughout the sales lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Sales and other business leaders to develop and deliver technical training and enablement programs that strengthen organizational selling capabilities.
  • Travel approximately 30–50% for customer meetings, leadership meetings, industry events, and team development activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Sales Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Technical Consulting, Technology Services, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing Sales Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Technical Consulting, or comparable technical teams.
  • Proven experience leading and scaling multi-regional or geographically dispersed pre-sales organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of managed services, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, networking, IT infrastructure, backup and disaster recovery, and unified communications solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical requirements into scalable, commercially viable solutions that support business objectives.
  • Strong understanding of technical sales strategy, solution architecture, discovery, scoping, proposal development, and customer-facing technical engagement.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence Sales, Product Management, Service Delivery, and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience within a Managed Services Provider (MSP), systems integrator, value-added reseller (VAR), or technology services organization is preferred.
  • Experience supporting national or multi-regional sales organizations serving SMB and mid-market customers is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and compliance frameworks, including NIST, HIPAA, PCI DSS, and SOC 2, is preferred.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, CCNP, PMP, ITIL, or equivalent credentials are preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to use data and performance metrics to drive decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Valid and current U.S. state driver’s license.
