The Warehouse Lead provides hands-on leadership and daily operational support for warehouse activities, including shipping, receiving, inventory control, order fulfillment, and material handling. This position helps coordinate workflow, train and support team members, maintain inventory and shipment accuracy, and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently to meet customer delivery expectations.
The Warehouse Lead works closely with warehouse employees, Customer Service, Fabrication, and other departments to prioritize daily activities and resolve operational issues. This role also provides leadership coverage and supports warehouse operations in the manager’s absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead, train, and provide day-to-day direction to warehouse employees across shipping, receiving, inventory control, cycle counting, order picking, and material handling activities.
Coordinate daily warehouse priorities and workflow to support accurate and on-time order fulfillment.
Process and track warehouse transactions using RF scanners, pick tickets, warehouse management systems, and other applicable technology.
Verify inbound and outbound shipments for product, quantity, documentation, and overall accuracy.
Ensure outgoing materials are properly picked, packaged, labeled, staged, and prepared for shipment.
Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to safely move, load, unload, and store materials, including pipe, bulk products, and palletized goods.
Perform and coordinate cycle counts, investigate inventory discrepancies, and support overall inventory accuracy.
Monitor backorders and assist with prioritizing fulfillment as inventory becomes available.
Troubleshoot shipping, receiving, and inventory discrepancies and coordinate appropriate corrective action.
Coordinate with Customer Service, Fabrication, and other departments to meet customer requirements and delivery schedules.
Coordinate freight and transportation activities, including carrier selection, LTL shipments, rate shopping, and scheduling company or third-party deliveries.
Utilize business and logistics systems such as JD Edwards, Varsity, RateLinx, or similar platforms to support warehouse and shipping activities.
Maintain warehouse supplies and consumables and assist with minor facility or operational maintenance needs.
Promote and maintain compliance with company safety requirements, housekeeping standards, operating procedures, and policies.
Identify opportunities to improve warehouse efficiency, accuracy, safety, and workflow and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide operational leadership and support during the manager’s absence.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous warehouse, distribution, shipping/receiving, or related experience required.
Previous experience providing team leadership, training, or work direction strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of shipping, receiving, inventory control, cycle counting, and material handling processes.
Experience coordinating freight, including LTL shipments and carrier scheduling, preferred.
Forklift and material handling equipment experience required.
Experience with RF scanners, warehouse management systems, ERP systems, or similar technology.
Intermediate computer skills and ability to learn company-specific warehouse and logistics systems.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple operational needs in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take appropriate action to resolve day-to-day issues.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively across departments and contribute to a team-oriented environment.
