The Outreach Specialist reports directly to the Outreach Coordinator at the site and provides outreach services to assist veterans experiencing homelessness and at-risk veterans by connecting them to housing and comprehensive support services that will lead to them reaching their highest level of independence.

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Responsibilities

Publicizes services for homeless veterans by visiting local facilities such as shelters, treatment programs, transitional housing, sober living programs, soup kitchens and other locations where people experiencing homelessness may congregate
Maintains an database of client information and referrals to the programs to track veterans referred the program and for screening appointments
Schedules screenings and transportation to the local U.S.VETS site as required on behalf of veterans leaving treatment or other facilities that contact U.S.VETS with potential client referrals
Assists with client transportation for program events
Collaborates and coordinates with external service provider staff to ensure all required paperwork for each client file is collected in a timely manner
Produces a weekly report of veterans encountered by the outreach team
Assists with communication of upcoming projects and special events sponsored by the outreach team
Attends the weekly outreach meeting of all U.S.VETS’ site outreach staff
Performs other duties as assigned
QualificationsRequirements

One year of experience in social services

Employment at U.S.VETS for at least three months may substitute for one year of experience

Strong oral, written, and communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work within a team
Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office
Valid driver’s license. Must meet company insurance requirements and complete a provided driver training course

Preferences

Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field
Experience working with people experiencing homelessness and/or the veteran population
