About this role

Become part of a pioneering project!

User Rights is committed to protecting fundamental rights on social media. When content is wrongfully blocked or prohibited content is not removed, User Rights helps to enforce these rights.

As Germany’s first independent dispute resolution body for social media platforms, we are actively shaping the legal framework of the digital space – and thereby contributing to the protection of fundamental rights and democracy on the internet.

To strengthen our team, we are currently looking for committed mediators with a completed law degree from an EU jurisdiction, or full qualification as a lawyer in an EU jurisdiction. Candidates at an early stage of their legal career, including those between qualification stages or completing practical training, are also welcome to apply.

Your mission

  • Independent decision-making on disputes: You will assess legally complex complaint procedures under the Digital Services Act, develop proposed solutions and draft reasoned mediation proposals. You will be free from instructions at all times when making decisions.
  • Legal assessment: Your decisions will take into account national law, EU law, various national and European fundamental rights, and other relevant areas of law.
  • Collaboration with a highly qualified team: You will work with legal experts, tech specialists and international partners on innovative processes.
  • Development and application of proprietary technologies: Our processes are supported by a unique platform that efficiently combines the entire procedural workflow with legal analysis and decision-making.

Your profile

  • A completed law degree within the EU, or a fully qualified lawyer in an EU jurisdiction.
  • A keen interest in digital fundamental rights, platform regulation and international media law.
  • Analytical thinking, attention to detail and excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent English, plus working level in at least one of French, German or Italian.

Why us?

  • A role with significant responsibility and decision-making authority.
  • An intensive induction programme, regular professional development opportunities and access to in-house case-based training.
  • The chance to work as part of an excellent, interdisciplinary team with high legal, technical and social standards.
  • Flexible working hours, fair pay, fully remote working, 30 days' holiday (based on a 5-day week), and a modern setup.
  • Regular team gatherings.
  • The opportunity to gain an insight into an emerging professional field in digital Europe.
  • We hire remotely, exclusively within the EU - preferably in Germany.
