Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Support
Prepare patients for CT examinations, including obtaining vital signs, reviewing medical history and patient questionnaires, and confirming appropriate exam preparation.
Independently initiate peripheral IV access.
Obtain EKGs and demonstrate the ability to recognize and appropriately escalate abnormal findings.
Administer or assist with medications, including nitroglycerin and metoprolol, according to established protocols, provider orders, organizational policy, and applicable scope of practice.
Perform point-of-care creatinine testing when required laboratory results are not available.
Coordinate or administer IV fluids before or after examinations when clinically indicated and within scope of practice.
Monitor patients throughout their visit and promptly communicate changes in patient condition to the appropriate clinical team.
Facilitate medication prescriptions and laboratory orders as directed.
Provide compassionate care and additional assistance to patients with complex medical conditions, mobility limitations, anxiety, or other clinical needs.
Assist patients with positioning and transfers as needed.
Provide clinical support to other imaging modalities as operationally necessary.
CT Workflow & Imaging Support
Prepare the CT patient care area each morning and ensure the department is appropriately stocked and ready for daily operations.
Review daily schedules and ensure patient charts are prepared prior to appointments.
Prepare patient information within the electronic medical record and imaging systems.
Perform CT examinations when permitted by the employee's applicable training, credentials, and scope of practice.
Complete required documentation in the PACS and/or electronic medical record following examinations.
Ensure all required patient and examination information is documented accurately and promptly.
Maintain efficient workflow while adapting to unexpected patient-care needs, delays, and changes in the daily schedule.
Patient Communication & Scheduling
Contact patients prior to scheduled examinations to review preparation instructions and answer questions.
Answer incoming department phone calls and assist patients with clinical and scheduling-related questions.
Complete scheduling actions and respond to requests from scheduling staff throughout the workday.
Return patient phone calls and follow up with patients who could not be reached earlier in the day.
Assist patients with communication, scheduling, preparation, and patient-care needs.
Provide language assistance when qualified and appropriate.
Administrative & Department Support
Complete outstanding scheduling and workflow actions from the previous business day.
Prepare patient packets and documentation for upcoming appointments.
Ensure patients receive appropriate and detailed examination preparation instructions.
Scan, upload, and file patient documentation to maintain complete and accurate medical records.
Monitor department inventory and order supplies as needed.
Stock patient-care and imaging supplies.
Prepare patient imaging records or CDs when requested.
Support additional imaging department responsibilities as operational needs arise.
Maintain an organized, safe, and patient-ready clinical environment.
Requirements
High school diploma or Texas accredited GED
1 year of Medical Assistant experience.
Competency in independently initiation peripheral IV access is required
Knowledge of EKG acquisition and basic EKG interpretation required
Current Medical Assistant certification.
Experience obtaining vital signs and providing direct patient care.
Current BCLS certification
Cardiology practice experience preferred but not required.
Fluently speaks, reads, and writes English.
