Maternal Fetal Medicine - Physician - Blank Children's Hospital

UnityPoint Health Des Moines is actively recruiting a Maternal Fetal Medicine physician to join their team at our Perinatal Center in Des Moines, IAPractice maternal-fetal medicine in a relational, patient-centered environment and enjoy quality of life in a city that’s recognized as a great place to live!

Responsibilities

Team

• Join a growing MFM team built around work/life balance.
• Experience strong support from robust, experienced staff: 8 nurses, 13 sonographers, 1 care coordinator, 3 diabetes educators, 1 genetic counselor, and 2 NPs.

Role

• Consultative only – no delivery or surgery requirements beyond cerclage procedures.
• Patient-facing MFM practice run at a pace that emphasizes quality of care – Max of 10 patients/day on MFM schedule in clinic.
• 4 clinic and/or call days, ½ day admin time per week, weekend call rotation.
• On-Call Responsibilities: On-call NP available to assist with inpatient rounding and completing inpatient notes. Clinic load is limited to a half-day in the morning while on call, leaving afternoons dedicated to inpatient needs and reading non-consultative ultrasounds.

Facility

• UPH Des Moines Perinatal Center is operated by Blank Children’s Hospital and has a large referral base from the surrounding community (both metro hospitals had a combined total of over 5,000 deliveries in 2023).  
• UnityPoint Iowa Methodist Hospital is a designated level 3 perinatal center.  
• Level IIIB NICU.  
• Modern and fully equipped clinic adjacent to the hospital features 4 GE Voluson E10 and 2 GE Voluson E22 ultrasound machines, integrated GE ViewPoint, and EPIC EMR.  
• In 2025, our Perinatal Center cared for 6,200 patients with high-risk maternal and fetal conditions.

Qualifications

• MD/DO or ECFMG certified foreign equivalent
• BC/BE in OBGYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine
• Fetal echocardiogram experience preferred but not required
• Hold an unrestricted license to practice in Iowa
