Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated, passionate, and fully qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) for a full-time, in-person position for the upcoming 2026–2027 school year. In this role, you will provide critical instructional support, accommodations, and advocacy for students aged 0 to 21 who are blind or visually impaired. You will work collaboratively with families, classroom teachers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure our students have equal access to their educational environments and curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct Instruction: Provide individualized instruction to students with visual impairments in areas such as braille reading/writing, assistive technology, visual efficiency, and the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC).
  • IEP Management: Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments; write, implement, and monitor progress on Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.
  • Collaboration & Consultation: Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and parents to adapt classroom materials, modify assignments, and implement necessary accommodations.
  • Advocacy & Support: Ensure classroom environments are physically and instructionally accessible for students with visual impairments.
Position RequirementsProfessional Licensure & Authorization (Mandatory)

Candidates must hold, or be eligible to immediately hold, active authorization from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) to provide services for students with visual impairments.

To meet the CDE requirements for the Special Education Specialist - Visual Impairment (ages 0-21) endorsement, you must have:

  • Advanced Degree: A Master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in special education visual impairment (or its equivalent, as determined by the CDE).
  • Program Completion: Successful completion of an approved program for special education specialists: visually impaired from a regionally accredited institution, including all prescribed field experience requirements.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Certification: Candidates who hold a dual certification/endorsement as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist are highly preferred, though this is not a strict requirement for the TVI role.
