About this role

Summary

The Staff Accountant works under the supervision of the Controller. This position will provide assistance with maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledgers; prepare and analyze budgets; reconcile accounts; and perform general bookkeeping.

Responsibilities

A Staff Accountant at TRUNO will:

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Analyze general ledger accounts and research variances.
  • Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, and related accounting entries.
  • Review and reconcile bank accounts and cash activity.
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable accounting as needed.
  • Prepare balance sheet schedules and supporting workpapers.
  • Assist with inventory accounting, reconciliations, and analysis.
  • Monitor prepaid expenses, accruals, and other recurring accounting transactions.
  • Investigate fluctuations and identify trends impacting financial results.
  • Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor requests.
  • Assist with maintaining compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and company procedures.
  • Assist with system implementations, upgrades, and testing.
  • Document accounting procedures and maintain process documentation.
  • Recommend solutions to improve accuracy, controls, and workflow effectiveness.

Qualifications

A Staff Accountant at TRUNO should have:

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (strongly preferred) or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Account Reconciliations
  • Journal Entries
  • Variance Analysis
  • Familiarity with financial terms in business contracts

Licenses & Certifications

  • CPA a plus but not required

Skills & Knowledge

  • Demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of GAAP
  • Intermediate computer skills, especially Microsoft Office
  • Ability to write formulas and create pivot tables in Excel
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Positive attitude
