About this role

Trico Centre for Family Wellness is seeking a full-time permanent Arena Operator for our facility. This role is responsible for the daily operation, and preventive maintenance of the building mechanical/electrical/HVAC systems, pool and arena operations. This position is also accountable for providing supplementary support to our Facility Attendants by performing indoor/outdoor general building maintenance, assisting with set-up/take-down of programming activities, ice resurfacing, pool water chemical readings, maintaining work logs, some janitorial responsibilities, and taking on special facility projects as required. This position involves a variety of rotating 10-hour shifts including weekdays, evenings, weekends with overtime requirements. 


Qualifications:

  • Fifth Class Power Engineering ticket
  • Graduate from a recognized college or university facility operations program (RFOM) preferred
  • Journeyman in one or more trades a definite asset
  • One to three years of experience working in a building operator capacity
  • Two years of general labour/maintenance experience
  • Arena and Pool Operations Level 1 and 2 Certification
  • Safety in the Workplace certificate and/or experience
  • Must have a valid drivers’ license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to lift and move objects 50lbs or greater
  • WHIMIS Certification
  • Trico Centre will initiate a comprehensive criminal background check for all new hires. A previous check will be accepted provided it is dated within the past 6 months.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certification.

Experience/Skills Required:

  • Proven Building Operator skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated technical competence with problem solving and decision making
  • Works well independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of safety standards and requirements as outlined by Work Safe Alberta
  • Possess high operational standards and skills in carpentry, electrical or mechanical repairs
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with others
  • Stays calm and works well under pressure, in emergency situations and when responding to alarms
  • Solid working knowledge around safety procedures (WHIMIS, TDG, Lock-out Tag-out procedures), etc.
  • Team oriented and able to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative to accomplish set goals

Responsibilities:

  • Delivers hands on maintenance to HVAC systems and boiler operations
  • Completes plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs as needed
  • Supports and provides set-up for all areas within the facility (arena rink floods, gymnasium equipment, meeting rooms, etc.)
  • Assesses needs and performs regular building checks and completes general facility repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Responds to building emergencies
  • Completes indoor/outdoor maintenance activities for the building
  • Provides some general clean-up for arena areas
  • Operates and maintains all facility equipment according to standard
