The Equipment Engineer ensures the reliability, safety, and mechanical integrity of all extrusion production lines and downstream hardware. This role focuses on maximizing machine uptime through robust preventive maintenance schedules, troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical failures, and leading capital expenditure (CapEx) hardware improvement projects. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  • Collaborate with vendors to source specialized tooling and equipment upgrades to maintain asset readiness.
  • Utilize maintenance work order data and machine logs to investigate root causes of mechanical failures, component wear, and structural breakdowns.
  • Drive projects to eliminate recurring equipment downtime and maximize overall machine uptime.
  • Lead the installation, commissioning, and optimization of hardware improvements for extrusion lines and ancillary systems.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and train operators/technicians on equipment features, machine guarding, and LOTO safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with the Process Engineer to align machine capabilities with optimal process parameters (temperatures, speeds, pressures) to minimize mechanical stress and component wear.
  • Maintain and upgrade downstream ancillary equipment (including vacuum pumps, water chillers, and pullers) to ensure synchronized line speed.
  • Maintain, and troubleshoot the material handling infrastructure, including delivery systems, vacuum loaders, blenders, and scrap grinders/shredders.
  • Manage and optimize the critical manufacturing utilities required to keep the extrusion lines running efficiently.
  • Design and work with maintenance to execute predictive and preventive maintenance (PM) programs to minimize unplanned downtime.

EXPERIENCE:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 0-3 Years of extrusion or relatable experience. 
  • Basic understanding of extrusion process equipment

SALARY
 

    • Equipment Engineer I: Base Salary Range: $75,000 TO $95,000 annually.

 

The salary range provided serves as a general guideline for potential compensation for this position. It reflects the base salary and does not account for other benefits or additional compensation opportunities that may apply. This role is also eligible for further compensation through an annual/sales bonus, in addition to the base salary.

 

At Trex, individual base salaries are determined based on various factors, including relevant skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.
