About this role

Under general supervision, performs patient preparations and screening processes. This position also serves as a transporter for the department.

Core Competencies

  • Escorts patients within the department and to other departments as required.

  • Assists in answering telephone and answering questions.

  • Uses two identifiers prior to working with patient.

  • Prepares patients paperwork for examinations and expedites patient through out based on patient’s schedule and/or patient’s need.

  • Prepares patients for their exam (ie, assists patients in changing into gowns, verifying patient history data, escorts patient to exam room).

  • Practices universal precautions.

  • Operates hospital computer system for the input and retrieval of information. (Cerner and PACS)

  • Assists in ordering and stocking department supplies.

  • Understands his/her role in maintaining medication security to authorized personnel only.

  • Participates in hospital performance improvement activities (BPI projects, task forces, etc) when requested.

  • Provides services in own job category to all age groups.



Department Specific Competencies

  • Transports patients to and from the department using appropriate body mechanics and safety precautions.

  • Records and routes messages as indicated accurately.

  • Functions actively with a constant awareness of safety issues. Immediately corrects and reports any unsafe conditions found.

  • Answers telephone calls courteously within 4 rings, identifies self and department,ascertains needs and routes/communicates to the appropriate person.

  • Identifies and sets priority for completion of daily tasks appropriately.

  • Approves assigned time card cluster on a bi-weekly basis.

  • Assists patients from reception area.

  • Ensures patient comfort and confidentiality at all times.

  • Greets customers promptly and assures they are taken care of in a timely manner.

  • Checks frequently for accurate information, and follows through on inefficient documentation.

  • Checks incoming faxes and route to appropriate personnel throughout the day.
