Position Overview
Tnemec Company is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Logistics Assistant to support the daily operations of the Traffic Department. This position plays an important role in coordinating transportation activities, maintaining regulatory documentation, auditing freight invoices, resolving shipment issues, and assisting with dispatch and route planning. The Logistics Assistant works closely with internal departments, company drivers, and transportation partners to help ensure timely, cost-effective deliveries while maintaining compliance with transportation regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Freight Invoice Processing
Audit and approve accessorial charges and miscellaneous freight invoices.
Review freight invoices for accuracy and resolve discrepancies with carriers.
Assist with maintaining accurate transportation billing records.
Freight Claims Administration
File freight claims for lost or damaged shipments.
Communicate with carriers to resolve claim disputes and denials.
Apply claims payments and credit memos to carrier invoices.
Monitor outstanding carrier receivables and follow up as needed.
Documentation and Regulatory Compliance
Maintain FMCSA-required records, including vehicle registrations, insurance, maintenance records, inspections, driver qualification files, hours-of-service documentation, and drug and alcohol testing records.
Maintain fuel purchase records and prepare documentation for quarterly IFTA tax filings.
Maintain carrier certificates of insurance.
Assist with maintaining hazardous materials documentation in compliance with 49 CFR, IATA, and IMDG regulations, including employee training records, product classifications, and packaging documentation.
Shipment Coordination
Monitor LTL carrier reports and communicate shipment delays to internal stakeholders.
Investigate shipment issues and coordinate timely resolutions with carriers and customers.
Track shipments and provide shipment status updates as needed.
Transportation Planning and Dispatch Support
Assist with analyzing upcoming shipments to identify consolidation and backhaul opportunities.
Coordinate with Customer Service, Shipping, Production, and Distribution Centers to confirm shipment readiness and delivery schedules.
Support route planning for company drivers and contracted carriers while considering delivery requirements, driver hours, and equipment availability.
Assist with obtaining carrier spot quotes when necessary.
Support dispatch activities by maintaining communication with drivers and carriers regarding schedules, delays, and delivery updates.
Utilize transportation management and fleet management software to support efficient transportation operations.
Additional Responsibilities
Maintain organized transportation records and reports.
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Traffic Department.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Traffic Manager.

QualificationsQualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred
Associate's or Bachelor's degree (or coursework) in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience in logistics, transportation, dispatch, customer service, or manufacturing operations.
Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), fleet management software, or ERP systems.
Working knowledge of transportation regulations, routing principles, and freight operations.
