Title

Technical Experts – Solar & BESS

Reporting To

Head (Technical Solutions)

Mission (Sources of Values)

To act as NED’s subject matter authority for solar PV and BESS technologies, ensuring all technical assumptions, designs, and performance parameters are robust, bankable, and aligned with long-term value creation across projects, investments, and transactions.

Accountability & Responsibility

•Lead technical strategy for solar PV and BESS across development, construction, operations, and transactions.
•Review and approve PV system design assumptions including DC/AC ratio, tracking vs fixed tilt, bifacial gains, degradation, and availability.
•Lead BESS technical assessments covering sizing, EMS/BMS architecture, degradation, cycling strategy, and grid-forming capabilities.
•Provide technical inputs into LCOE, IRR, valuation, and financing assumptions.
•Support technical risk allocation in EPC, OEM, PPA, and financing discussions.
•Evaluate new technologies and suppliers for performance, durability, and bankability.
•Establish technical standards, modelling methodologies, and assumptions library for solar & BESS.
•Support technical due diligence for M&A, JVs, refinancing, and turnaround initiatives.

Education and Knowledge

•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or related field.
•Postgraduate qualification (MBA, MSc in Renewable Energy, Energy Finance, or Project Management) strongly preferred.
•Additional certifications in Project Finance, M&A, or Renewable Energy Economics an advantage.

Experience Requirements

  • Malaysian citizenship
  • Minimum 10–15 years of experience in solar and BESS, including technical leadership, engineering design, grid integration, and project technical advisory roles for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in solar energy yield assessment, energy yield modelling, system optimization and loss analysis using industry-standard tools and methodologies, such as PVSyst, HomerPro or equivalent is preferred.
  • Proven experience supporting project development, technical due diligence, financing processes, or lender technical reviews for solar and/or BESS projects.
  • Strong track record in solar and BESS technology evaluation, OEM engagement, and performance optimization across project lifecycles.
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary teams including development, engineering, grid, commercial, and asset management functions.
  • Familiarity with solar PV plant components and/or BESS plant components or grid integration is an advantage
