OSS is seeking a ThingWorx Application Developer to support our valued government customers in designing, developing, and sustaining modern business applications. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience developing PTC ThingWorx applications and understands how to translate business requirements into intuitive, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
The ThingWorx Application Developer will work closely with the Project Manager, application architects, developers, and customer stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle. This position will contribute to requirements analysis, solution design, application development, testing, deployment, user training, and sustainment, while ensuring solutions meet or exceed customer expectations.
The primary focus will be the automation and modernization of government business processes, including project management, acquisition, resource management, funding, scheduling, and associated data. The successful candidate will help transform complex business processes into streamlined digital workflows and user-friendly applications that improve data management, increase operational efficiency, and provide meaningful insights to senior leaders and functional managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, configure, test, deploy, and sustain applications using the PTC ThingWorx platform.
- Translate customer and functional requirements into effective ThingWorx application solutions.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager, application architects, developers, and customer stakeholders to define technical approaches and application designs.
- Design and develop intuitive user interfaces, dashboards, workflows, and data visualizations that support both day-to-day operations and management decision-making.
- Develop and maintain data models, entities, services, business logic, and application components.
- Integrate ThingWorx applications with databases, external systems, APIs, and other enterprise data sources as required.
- Apply sound software development and database design practices to create scalable, maintainable, and secure solutions.
- Participate in requirements analysis, technical design reviews, code reviews, testing, demonstrations, and customer presentations.
- Troubleshoot application issues and provide ongoing technical support and sustainment.
- Communicate technical status, risks, dependencies, schedules, and potential issues to the Project Manager.
- Collaborate effectively with other developers to ensure consistency, quality, and maintainability across project solutions.
- Work directly with customer stakeholders to understand evolving business needs and identify opportunities for process automation and improvement.
- Support user training, documentation, deployment activities, and transition of applications into operational use.
- Evaluate existing business processes and recommend opportunities for automation, modernization, and improved use of organizational data.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of hands-on experience developing applications using PTC ThingWorx.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience across the full software development lifecycle, to include application development, including requirements analysis, development, testing, and deployment.
- Experience with user interface design and relational database concepts.
- Ability to translate business requirements into functional and technical solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with software developers, project managers, and customer stakeholders.
- Strong customer-facing skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PTC ThingWorx capabilities such as Mashups, Data Shapes, Services, business logic, and application configuration.
- Experience integrating ThingWorx with relational databases, REST APIs, web services, or other enterprise systems.
- Experience with business process analysis and modeling, including workflows, business rules, and process improvement.
- Experience developing solutions using the Microsoft 365 Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI.
- Experience automating and modernizing government business processes, particularly project management, acquisition, resource management, funding, or scheduling.
- Experience designing dashboards, data visualizations, and decision-support tools for senior leadership and functional managers.
- Experience working directly with government customers and senior functional stakeholders.
- Experience with Agile or other iterative software development methodologies.
- Experience creating technical documentation, user guides, and training materials.
