LLS APAC Application and Technical Service Senior Scientist - Nutra

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The APAC Nutra Application & Technical Service Senior Scientist is responsible for building regional technical and innovation capabilities to support the growth of Lubrizol's Nutraceutical business across Asia Pacific.

This role will establish and expand the APAC Nutra technical laboratory platform, develop regionally relevant application prototypes, provide technical expertise nutraceutical formulations, and drive innovation programs aligned with local market needs. Working closely with Commercial, Marketing, Global R&D, external partners, and customers. The position will accelerate business growth through technical differentiation, customer-focused innovation, and development of new product opportunities including open innovation collaborations and finished-goods concepts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regional Technical Capability Development

• Build and establish APAC Nutra application and technical capabilities through a dedicated regional Nutra laboratory based in Shanghai.
• Develop and maintain technical expertise in nutraceutical ingredient applications, formulation technologies, and product performance evaluation.
• Create and implement regional technical platforms, testing protocols, and best practices to support regional and global projects.
• Serve as the regional technical expert and primary point of contact for nutraceutical formulation development across APAC.

Application & Prototype Development

• Design and develop innovative prototype formulations tailored to regional consumer trends, customer needs, and local market requirements.
• Build deep expertise in liquid dosage forms, including beverages, shots, syrups, suspensions, concentrates, and other emerging delivery formats.
• Evaluate ingredient compatibility, formulation stability, sensory performance, and manufacturability to ensure successful commercialization.
• Generate application data and technical documentation to support customer engagement and commercial activities.

Innovation & New Product Development

• Identify and develop innovation opportunities that support strategic business growth within APAC.
• Collaborate with regional customers, research institutes, CDMOs, and other external partners to drive Open Innovation (OI) programs under global OI alignment.
• Explore, evaluate, and develop finished-goods concepts and new delivery systems that create differentiated market opportunities.
• Translate consumer insights, market trends, and unmet needs into commercially viable innovation projects.
• Collaborate with global technical team to leverage internal expertise and align regional projects with global Nutra technology strategies.

Customer & Technical Service Support

• Provide formulation guidance, technical presentations, product demonstrations, troubleshooting, and distributor & customer training.
• Participate in customer visits, technical workshops, seminars, trade shows, and industry conferences to strengthen Lubrizol’s technical presence in the nutraceutical market.
• Support strategic customer projects.

REQUIREMENTS – EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS:

• Educational background in Food Science & Technology or Nutrition Science is preferred; however, pharmacy, polymer science, chemistry, biology or related field can be considered.
• A bachelor’s degree with at least 15 years, or an M.S./Ph.D. with at least 10 years, of relevant work experience is required.
• Experience working in a nutraceutical or related company, preferably in R&D, formulation development, technical service, or another relevant scientific role.
• Strong knowledge of nutraceutical technologies, with hands-on experience in formulation development, especially liquid formulations, and equipment evaluation.
• Strong problem-anticipation and problem-solving skills, with an innovative mindset and the ability to think creatively.
• Ability to work independently while demonstrating strong collaboration and team spirit.
• Good communication and presentation skills in both Chinese and English.
• Self-starter with high motivation to achieve goals and objectives.
• Willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time.
