Job DetailsJob Location: Lower School - San Jose, CA 95130Salary Range: $45.00 - $50.00 HourlyThe Harker School is seeking substitute nurses to provide coverage for our full-time school nurses when they are away. This is a flexible, as-needed opportunity, with assignments ranging from a few hours to several days across our K–12 campuses.

The substitute nurse plays an important role in supporting the health, safety and well-being of our students. While on assignment, the substitute nurse will manage the daily responsibilities of the school health office, including evaluating and caring for students who become ill or injured, administering medications as appropriate and occasionally providing care to employees.

This is a great opportunity for a registered nurse who is looking to pick up additional hours around another job or personal commitments, gain experience working with children and adolescents, or explore school nursing as a potential future career.

For full-day assignments, substitute nurses will receive a one-hour lunch break.

Qualifications

Current, active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in California

Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred

Current CPR certification

Strong organizational skills with careful attention to accuracy and detail

Genuine interest in working with students and families within a vibrant and diverse school community

Strong work ethic, reliability and initiative

Ability to calmly triage, assess and care for students in a fast-paced environment

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Sound professional judgment and discretion

Ability to maintain confidentiality and composure under pressure

Flexibility to work on an as-needed basis across Harker’s K–12 campuses
