On behalf of the European Space Agency, we are looking for a highly skilled STEM Didactics Coordinator for ESA Education Office to work in ESTEC, in the Netherlands.

Candidates must be eligible for a security personal clearance from an EU Member State national security administration

What is expected from you:

In this position you will:

  • Support the coordination, production and delivery of didactics activities such as teaching and learning resources and teacher & educator training events
  • Support the design, coordination and delivery of project-based learning activities

The main activities of the STEM Didactics include:

  • Design, produce (or coordinate the production of), test, deliver/show case and evaluate innovative pilot didactics concepts (teaching / learning resources) for both formal (school) and non-formal environments for age groups ranging from 3 to 18 years old and u sing Space as a teaching and learning context and for physical, online (e-learning) and hybrid delivery formats
  • Implement the design, planning, production (or coordination of the production) and delivery of initiatives aimed at the international engagement of teachers and educators - either at ESA facilities or at facilities indicated by ESA (e.g. teacher training sessions and workshops in person and online, e-learning courses for teachers/educators
  • Support the design an evaluation survey for completion by the training participants; use the results of these surveys to prepare concise evaluation reports that include lessons learned, recommendations and opportunities for the improvement for the STEM Learning and Inspiration Programme concerning training and didactics
  • Support the international management, implementation and evolution of the ongoing ESA-ESERO project-based learning activities, including the annual interdisciplinary school projects (CanSat, Astro Pi, Mission X, Climate Detectives, Moon Camp)
  • Provide inputs to the design of new project-based learning activities including concept, subject knowledge, didactics expertise, planning and organization. If such activities are adopted by ESA, support their implementation

What you offer :

  • University education in a STEM subject
  • Additional university qualification in school-level STEM-education or secondary-level teaching qualifications in a STEM subject
  • Experience in instructional design and state-of-the-art STEM pedagogical approaches, theoretical and practical;
  • Specific experience in the design and development of didactic content on scientific subjects applied to secondary school curricula, the addition of primary level pedagogy/didactics qualification and/or experience is considered an asset
  • Direct teaching experience and/or teacher training experience
  • At least 3 years of experience of relevant professional experience in the domain
  • Fluent in spoken and written English; Knowledge of French is an asset.
  • Strong interest in education activities, and in the field of science and technology in general.
  • Experience in space project management, teaching or in educational projects is a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to effectively coordinate work contributions from several different parties, and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders (ESA, the involved international partners, industry, academia, and students).
  • Candidates will be expected to have strong organizational and reporting skills, as well as a strong proactive, self-starter and autonomous attitude.
  • Strong capacity to learn and adapt as well as an excellent aptitude for resolving problems autonomously and diplomatically, as the successful applicant will be in direct contact with many different stakeholders, from a wide range of ESA staff at different levels, to representatives of academia, experts, industry, and ESA’s international partners
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Familiar with the ESA environment and programs is an asset

Where:

You will be working within ESTEC, the European Space Agency’s offices in the Netherlands as a contractor for Telespazio Belgium. We don’t expect the employees to be on-site full time however you will still have to relocate to the Netherlands for this position.
