Travel: Project-based travel as required
Reports To: Construction Manager
The Role
The Heavy Equipment Operator safely operates a variety of heavy machinery in support of Tasman's Construction Earthwork projects. This position plays a critical role in excavation, grading, site development, reclamation, and earthmoving activities while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
The ideal candidate is a dependable equipment operator with strong situational awareness, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced field environment. This position may begin as a temporary assignment with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role based on business needs and performance.
What You'll Be Doing
Equipment Operation & Earthwork Activities
Operate heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, front-end loaders, mini excavators, motor graders, and other earthmoving equipment
Perform excavation, grading, material handling, site preparation, and earthwork activities
Load, unload, move, and place materials in designated work and storage areas
Support construction, reclamation, and site development projects
Follow project plans and field direction to safely complete assigned work
Equipment Inspection & Maintenance
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment
Monitor equipment performance and identify maintenance needs
Complete routine maintenance and minor repairs when appropriate
Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, and major repair requirements promptly
Maintain equipment cleanliness and readiness for operation
Field Operations Support
Assist field crews with site activities as needed
Support project schedules through efficient equipment utilization
Participate in site setup, material handling, and project logistics
Work collaboratively with laborers, foremen, supervisors, and project teams
Safety & Compliance
Follow all company, client, and site-specific safety requirements
Operate equipment in accordance with established safety procedures
Conduct work safely around personnel, utilities, structures, and other equipment
Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training
Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses
What You Bring
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 1 year of heavy equipment operating experience
Knowledge of proper equipment operating procedures and safety standards
Ability to safely operate heavy construction equipment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
Strong work ethic, reliability, and teamwork skills
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to lift 50 pounds or more as needed
Valid driver's license
Authorization to work in the United States
Preferred
Oil & gas industry experience
Experience with earthwork, excavation, grading, site development, or civil construction projects
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or willingness to obtain
Experience working around underground utilities and excavation operations
Work Environment
This role operates primarily in outdoor construction and earthwork environments.
Field Conditions
Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow
Active construction, excavation, and earthmoving sites
Work around heavy equipment, construction vehicles, and moving machinery
Use of PPE and safety equipment at all times
Exposure to dust, mud, noise, and uneven terrain
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting
Continuous operation of heavy equipment
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods
Ability to safely enter and exit heavy equipment repeatedly throughout the workday
Schedule
Full-time
Hours vary based on project schedules and seasonal workload
Overtime may be required
Some assignments may begin as temporary positions with the opportunity for long-term employment
