TAP Engineering is seeking a Linux System Administrator to support the operation, performance, and reliability of high-performance computing (HPC) environments spanning multi-vendor servers, clusters, and specialized processing systems. You’ll manage Linux and Unix systems, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, and help optimize systems for demanding mission requirements.

TAP Engineering is seeking a Linux System Administrator to support the operation, performance, and reliability of high-performance computing (HPC) environments spanning multi-vendor servers, clusters, and specialized processing systems. You’ll manage Linux and Unix systems, troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, and help optimize systems for demanding mission requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux and Unix operating systems
- Manage file systems, system configurations, software installations, and system upgrades
- Monitor system health, performance, and resource utilization across HPC environments
- Troubleshoot operating system, application, networking, storage, and infrastructure issues
- Support TCP/IP networking and high-speed HPC network technologies
- Develop and maintain Bash scripts to automate system administration and operational tasks
- Compile, install, and maintain software and applications within Linux environments
- Support day-to-day operations and incident resolution across servers, storage, network devices, and related infrastructure
- Optimize system performance and resource utilization and assist with capacity planning
- Support users and technical teams with system access, configuration, and troubleshooting
- Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting activities
- Escalate complex issues and communicate system status to technical teams and stakeholders
- Provide support for the implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems
- Support day-to-day operations, monitoring, and incident response for storage environments
- Manage and sustain enterprise and HPC storage systems
- Support client/server, storage, and network devices
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support based on experience level
- Escalate issues appropriately and communicate status to Government and internal stakeholders
- Support dispatch operations for hardware-related issues and remain engaged through resolution
- Optimize system performance and resource utilization
- Perform system capacity analysis and planning
- Provide detailed troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Document system configurations, procedures, and sustainment activities
- Follow Government-defined ticketing, change management, and operational procedures
- Maintain accurate system documentation and records
Required Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph (most recent poly within the last 7 years)
- DoD 8570 IAT II certification
- Strong experience administering Linux and/or Unix operating systems
- Experience with OS installation, file system configuration, software installation, and application troubleshooting
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking
- Bash scripting experience
- Experience with software compilation and installation
- Understanding of HPC architectures and environments
- Familiarity with high-speed networking technologies such as InfiniBand and Slingshot
- Experience or familiarity with tools such as Slurm, Salt, Ansible, Git, Jira, Confluence, Grafana, Prometheus, and Nagios
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose unique and complex system issues
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, mission-focused environment
