DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Sr. Environmental Specialist duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee environmental compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Lead the preparation, review, and submission of environmental permits, reports, regulatory filings, and other required documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance to leadership and operations regarding environmental requirements, compliance obligations, and emerging regulatory developments.
  • Lead environmental audits, assessments, and inspections, including the development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Conduct environmental risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate operational and project-related environmental risks.
  • Lead environmental projects related to compliance, sustainability, environmental performance, and risk reduction.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Safety, and other stakeholders to integrate environmental considerations into projects and operational activities.
  • Manage environmental project scope, schedules, budgets, deliverables, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring programs and analyze environmental data to evaluate compliance, performance, and trends.
  • Prepare and present environmental reports, analyses, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives focused on emissions reduction, resource conservation, waste minimization, and overall environmental performance.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance environmental programs, processes, and performance across the organization.
  • Develop and deliver environmental training and provide mentorship and technical guidance to environmental staff.
  • Promote a culture of environmental stewardship, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the company with regulatory agencies, industry organizations, consultants, vendors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Provide environmental support during operational activities, audits, inspections, regulatory matters, and environmental incident response, including travel outside normal business hours as needed.
  • Support environmental response activities and provide technical guidance during environmental incidents or emergencies, including travel outside normal business hours when required.
  • Perform work in industrial and offshore environments while adhering to all applicable safety requirements and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain the ability to work in varying weather conditions and safely navigate stairs, ladders, walkways, and uneven surfaces during offshore and field visits.
  • Complete and maintain all required offshore survival, safety, medical, and site-specific certifications necessary to support offshore operations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive environmental experience required.
  • Significant environmental experience within the oil and gas, energy, or industrial sector.
  • S. deepwater experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting offshore operations, environmental permitting, regulatory reporting, and compliance with federal and state environmental requirements.
  • Experience leading environmental assessments, audits, inspections, risk assessments, and complex environmental projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement environmental programs, policies, and procedures, while providing technical guidance and strategic recommendations to leadership and operational teams.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of U.S. environmental laws and regulations, including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, RCRA, NEPA, and offshore regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS), environmental management systems, and environmental compliance processes, including risk assessment, auditing, monitoring, and corrective actions.
  • Proven ability to lead complex environmental initiatives, manage multiple priorities and stakeholders, and work effectively across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret environmental data and identify risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical and regulatory requirements to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop environmental professionals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and environmental reporting, data management, and data analysis systems.

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Environmental Manager (CEM) certification preferred.
  • RCRA certification or related hazardous waste management training preferred.
  • NORM certification or related training preferred.
  • Certified Environmental Health (CEH) or similar environmental/EHS credential preferred.
  • Other relevant environmental, regulatory, or industry certifications are a plus.
  • Must be able to successfully complete applicable offshore survival, safety, and medical certifications as required.
