About this role
Primary purpose:
The Drafter I is responsible for assisting in the creation, revision, and maintenance of technical drawings and documentation under close supervision. This role supports senior drafters and designers in producing accurate 2D drawings and sketches in accordance with established drafting standards and company templates. The Drafter I will develop foundational skills in CAD software and drafting practices while gaining exposure to large-scale infrastructure and energy solutions terminology, processes, and equipment. This position plays a supporting role in ensuring the accuracy and organization of engineering drawings and project documentation within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities:
- Assist in creating basic 2D drawings and sketches under close supervision
- Follow established drafting standards and templates
- Perform simple revisions and updates to existing drawings
- Organize and maintain drawing files and documentation
- Learn to use CAD software and company-specific tools
- Support senior drafters and designers with routine tasks
Work effectively across multi-disciplinary teams and present technical details to non-technical stakeholders.
Collaborate with a variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
Maintain regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance.
Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
Other daily, weekly, monthly, or special projects may be assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in Drafting Technology, CAD Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
- 1-2 years of relevant drafting or CAD experience may be considered in lieu of education requirements.
Experience/Specific Knowledge:
Minimum 1 year relevant drafting or CAD experience.
Basic familiarity with AutoCAD or similar CAD software
Foundational understanding of drafting principles and technical drawing standards
Basic knowledge of engineering and oil & gas industry terminology preferred
Exposure to or coursework in drafting standards and codes relevant to the oil and gas industry preferred
Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings and schematics
Ability to manage assigned tasks and priorities with regular supervision and guidance.
Proficiency in MS Office applications including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Certifications, Licenses & Registrations:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).
Competencies, Skills & Abilities:
Basic proficiency in AutoCAD software, including foundational understanding of Paper Space/Model Space, External References, and basic commands (copy, paste, rotate, modify)
Basic knowledge of engineering and oil & gas industry terminology
Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings
Receptiveness to feedback and ability to apply lessons learned to improve work quality
Foundational knowledge of drafting standards and codes relevant to the oil and gas industry
Ability to support small-scale projects under supervision to develop practical drafting experience
Able to perform the essential functions of the position.

Working Conditions:
- May be required to carry a cell phone. Any work performed outside scheduled hours must be pre-approved when possible and accurately recorded in the timekeeping system in accordance with company policy.
- The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, including credit report for certain positions, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- None.
Compensation:
- The annual hourly range for this position will be $22.98-$34.42/hr.
