About this role

T3i seeks a Lead Water Skills Coach to support military aquatic training as part of an integrated, multidisciplinary human performance (HP) team supporting the U.S. Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC) training environment. The Lead Water Skills Coach will collaborate with Government staff to design and implement a periodized aquatic training curriculum that progressively develops students’ swimming ability and water competency in preparation for course standards. Daily activities include training design, hands-on instruction, demonstration, mentorship, aquatic safety support, student performance analysis, and coordination of supplemental training. The Lead will work closely with the uniformed Government Lead, instructors, cadre, and other HP professionals to evaluate student progression and recommend program improvements. The selected candidate must adhere to the highest standards of conduct and maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, customers, and teammates.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement a periodized aquatic training curriculum, in collaboration with Government staff, that progressively develops students’ swimming ability and water competency in preparation for course standards.
  • Develop daily training sessions and periodized training progressions in coordination with the uniformed Government Lead, adjusting training based on student progression and course requirements.
  • Provide hands-on swim coaching, instruction, and mentorship to students.
  • Serve as Safety Ratio Personnel during aquatic evolutions, instruction, and training.
  • Record, maintain, and analyze student performance data and training trends to assess program effectiveness, identify areas of concern, and support data-informed recommendations for curriculum and training progression.
  • Coordinate with the Government Lead and training staff regarding pool availability, schedules, equipment, and other resources necessary to execute aquatic training.
  • Provide observations, after-action feedback, and periodic program updates to Government leadership regarding student progression, training effectiveness, safety concerns, and recommended improvements.
  • Track students identified by instructors for aquatic remediation and coordinate supplemental training sessions.
  • Analyze and report monthly student progress, group performance trends, and significant individual outliers.
  • Recommend training modifications based on identified needs and present findings to Government leadership.
  • Follow applicable training and safety directives and maintain all required professional credentials.

Minimum Required Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum of three years of recent experience, within the past five years, as an aquatics coach or instructor in a military or other structured training environment.
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
  • Willing and able to learn, demonstrate, and teach all required swimming strokes and treading techniques in a pool environment.
  • Ability to rescue aquatic participants, perform backboarding procedures when required, and transfer care in accordance with the applicable High-Risk Training Emergency Action Plan.
  • Ability to lead or support supplemental water-confidence evolutions under the direction of Government instructors and cadre, as required.
  • Desired Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Human Performance, or a related field.
  • Prior operational experience within MARSOC.
  • Experience working as part of an integrated, multidisciplinary human-performance team.
  • Five or more years of experience supporting military, special operations, collegiate, or professional athletic populations in aquatic or ground-based training environments.
  • Current National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and/or Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator (TSAC-F) certification.
  • Familiarity and demonstrated competency with military water-confidence and pre-dive training techniques.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to complete the T3i Water Skills Coach Physical Readiness Assessment and meet all minimum standards below.
  • 500-yard continuous swim in 12 minutes, 30 seconds or less using freestyle, breaststroke, sidestroke, or a combination of those strokes.
  • Eight pull-ups; 42 push-ups; a two-minute plank; and a three-mile run in 28 minutes or less.
  • Maintain the physical readiness necessary to demonstrate required skills and participate safely in course training, aquatic instruction, rescue operations, and water-confidence evolutions.
