POSITION SUMMARY

The Financial Business Analyst is a role that supports the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of Strathmore's financial operations. Reporting to the VP Finance & Digital Transformation, this position assists with balance sheet reconciliations and provides day-to-day support to the Finance department's continuous improvement and digital transformation initiatives, including the NetSuite ERP rollout. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career finance professional to build hands-on experience across accounting, systems, and process improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Balance Sheet Support

  • Assist with monthly balance sheet close activities, including preparing account reconciliations for assigned accounts (cash, AR, AP, prepaids, accruals) under the guidance of senior finance staff.
  • Help investigate reconciling items and variances, escalating more complex issues to the Senior Financial Analyst or VP Finance.
  • Maintain organized supporting documentation and schedules to help ensure audit-readiness.
  • Support monitoring of trial balance data during the NetSuite Sandbox-to-Production transition, flagging discrepancies for review.
  • Assist with gathering documentation requested by external auditors during year-end and interim audits.

Finance Department Improvement & Digital Transformation

  • Support process documentation efforts across GL, AR, AP, and payroll functions, helping identify manual or repetitive tasks.
  • Assist with NetSuite implementation activities, including test case execution (UAT), data validation, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Help prepare bilingual (English/French) training materials and process guides for staff during system rollouts.
  • Track simple KPIs and metrics under the direction of the VP Finance & Digital Transformation to help measure progress on improvement initiatives.
  • Support the transition away from manual tools (e.g., spreadsheet trackers, legacy QuickBooks exports) toward ERP-driven processes.

Financial Analysis & Reporting Support

  • Help compile monthly and quarterly financial reports and variance summaries for review by senior team members.
  • Assist in gathering data for budgets, forecasts, and bid scenario models.
  • Support maintenance of existing dashboards and reports, updating figures and formatting as needed.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Coordinate with other departments (Operations, Purchasing, HR, IT) on routine data requests and follow-ups.
  • Help distribute bilingual internal communications related to finance process changes and training.
  • Provide general administrative and analytical support to the Finance team as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (recent graduates or studies in progress welcome to apply).
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience; internship or co-op experience in accounting/finance is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and the balance sheet close process.
  • Exposure to ERP systems is an asset; NetSuite, Aspire, QuickBooks, or ADP Workforce Now experience is a plus but not required.
  • Solid Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables); willingness to develop more advanced modeling skills.
  • Bilingual in English and French (spoken and written) required.
  • Enrollment in or interest in pursuing a CPA designation is an asset.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Eagerness to learn, with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple small tasks and deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.
  • Comfortable working in a team environment and asking questions when needed.
  • Discretion and professionalism when handling financial information.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Based in Montreal; occasional coordination with Ottawa, Toronto, or U.S. teams.
  • Standard office hours, with some additional support needed during month-end/year-end close and key ERP rollout milestones.
