Position Summary

The Executive Project Director - Iraq oversees project execution of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts for three simple cycles to combined cycle power plant conversion projects in Iraq, with more projects under MOU to be added to the portfolio. The three projects are located in Kirkuk, Baghdad, and Babil provinces and will add to Iraq’s power generation capacity. This role will interface with the Iraq Minister of Electricity (MoE) office at all levels, from project management to senior ministerial staff. You will be responsible for a team of Project Managers and project staff located in Iraq, the nearby region, and in the U.S. You will direct the planning, staffing, contracting, and project execution of all projects and assure that the goals and objectives of the projects are accomplished meeting safety, quality, schedule, and budget requirements. You will ensure the project execution follows Export Credit Agency (ECA) financing requirements from various ECA’s including the US Exim Bank, SACE (Italy), Turk Eximbank, and others, as well as internal governance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Consistent and clear written and verbal communication with the client (Iraq MoE), internal project staff, SEGI leadership, and all suppliers and stakeholders.
• Responsible for the overall safety, quality, schedule, and financial management of the projects in alignment with a shared governance model with the Executive Leadership Team and Business Unit President.
• Financial accountability for the projects including revenue, margins, and cash flow
• Manage engineering and construction contractor tendering, selection, negotiation, and performance
• Ensure compliance with client expectations and contractual requirements
• Oversight of major global power generation equipment suppliers including steam turbine generators, heat recovery steam generators (HRSG’s), air cooled condensers (ACC’s), and electrical equipment.
• Exhibit strong risk management skills - identify risks, solve potential problems, and implement corrective actions.
• Reviews status reports of Project Managers and upper management and addresses issues as appropriate.
• Grow long-term relationships with clients and capitalize on partnership opportunities
• Establishes operating procedures for the projects, and ensures procedures meet program goals.

Qualifications

Required

• Prior EPC Project Management experience on government power projects (Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia) is required
• Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, or management related discipline
• A minimum of 15 years of experience in project and / or construction management
• EPC experience is required
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
• Deep understanding of the culture and customs of the client country

Preferred

• Experience with combined cycle power plant EPC is strongly preferred
• Master’s degree in construction, engineering, or management related discipline
• 5 years’ experience in the power, oil & gas, process and / or district energy industries
• Certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent

Work Authorization

The candidate must be able to qualify for and obtain either visit or work visas for the projects in various countries, including Iraq, outside of the candidate’s home country.
