IRIS² Security Officer – EU Communication Gateway (COMM GW Lot)
About this role
In this role, you will act as the security authority for SSC’s COMM GW lot within IRIS², leading and coordinating end-to-end security and resilience management across a complex, multi-partner ground segment environment.
You will ensure that security requirements, controls, and risk management activities are consistently implemented across engineering, operations, suppliers, and programme delivery.
You will operate within established programme governance, ensuring that security risks, incidents, and compliance gaps are properly escalated and addressed. You will also ensure alignment with contractual requirements, regulatory frameworks, and SSC Space internal security and resilience governance.
You will balance delivery objectives with security and compliance requirements in a highly regulated environment, ensuring effective coordination without compromising programme integrity.
You will work closely with programme leadership, engineering, operations, and customer stakeholders, acting as the focal point for security-related coordination and reporting.
This role is for you if you:
- Have experience managing security and resilience in complex technical or infrastructure programmes
- Are comfortable working across cybersecurity, physical security, and information security domains
- Can coordinate structured risk management, compliance, and assurance activities
- Are confident managing stakeholders and escalating security issues where needed
- Thrive in regulated environments with strong requirements on evidence and traceability
- Minimum 7 years of experience in security and resilience management
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, information security, physical and/or personnel security
- Experience with contractual security requirements, audits, accreditation, and customer-facing governance
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, and suppliers
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, reporting, and escalation skills
- Structured approach to security management, compliance tracking, and documentation
Highly valuable:
- Experience in satellite communications, ground segment, or secure infrastructure environments
- Experience working with EU institutional programmes or ESA-related activities
- Familiarity with accreditation processes or regulated environments
- Experience overseeing supplier and subcontractor security compliance
- Analyse, assess, implement, and continuously improve the security and resilience posture across the COMM GW lot
- Coordinate security risk management, including threat identification, mitigation planning, prioritisation, and residual risk reporting
- Lead security governance activities, including analysis, reporting, and decision support
- Ensure incident and crisis reporting, including notification and escalation
- Manage, track, and escalate security incidents, vulnerabilities, and non-conformities
- Coordinate integration of security across design, implementation, verification, deployment, and operations
- Oversee supplier and subcontractor security compliance within the COMM GW lot
- Support audits, assessments, accreditation activities, and customer security reviews
- Maintain security deliverables, evidence, and traceability required by the programme
- Security risks clearly identified, tracked, and mitigated across the programme
- Consistent implementation of security requirements across engineering, operations, and suppliers
- Effective visibility and control over security incidents, vulnerabilities, and compliance status
- Strong coordination across teams, leading to reduced security-related delivery risks
- Successful audits, accreditation activities, and customer reviews with minimal findings
