Job Description

The Design Engineer plays a critical technical role in delivering high-quality residential and site development projects. The Design Engineer proactively identifies design conflicts, integrates constructability into decision-making, and coordinates directly with clients, municipalities, consultants, and contractors to ensure seamless execution.

Job Functions

  • Prepare plan sheets (grading, drainage, utilities, paving) for residential and site development projects with close supervision.
  • Perform basic calculations (hydraulics, utility sizing, earthwork).
  • Support entitlement and permitting documentation.
  • Work directly with internal engineering and design staff to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with construction administration documentation (clarification sketches, product submittal review, RFI support) when directed.
  • Maintain drafting accuracy and follow Spiars’ standards.

Competencies 

  • Foundational civil engineering knowledge and ability to learn quickly.
  • Basic proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and utility tools.
  • High attention to detail and strong self-checking habits.
  • Clear, concise internal communication.
  • Ability to take direction and integrate feedback effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification 
  • Experience in land/site development or civil engineering internship
  • Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D
