CLINICAL RESEARCH TECHNICIAN ADVANCED NOC SHIFT

The Clinical Research Technician - Advanced is responsible for advanced technical procedures in the conduct of clinical trials, including meal administration, subject positioning, bag checks, vital signs, ECG lead placement, phlebotomy, urine collection, PK runner activities, height/weight/BMI, and dose verification, with emphasis on the safety and welfare of study participants. The role performs practical clinical study activities according to protocol requirements, regulatory requirements, SOPs, scope of practice, and current training status.

Full-time, onsite position
NOC Shift: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend

Holiday Rotation: Required

Training Requirement: Initial training will be completed on the AM shift before transitioning to the regular NOC schedule.

Required training begins with New Hire Orientation on Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, followed by training Wednesday through Friday from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM during the first week. Beginning in week two, training start times may vary between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Training shifts remain eight hours in length. The training period takes a minimum of eight weeks on the AM schedule before transitioning to the regular 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM NOC shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Procedures and Study Execution

With supervision, ensures that clinical trials are conducted according to protocol requirements by utilizing required techniques and procedures.
Performs meal administration, ensuring the correct meal and correct content are delivered to the correct study participant.
Performs subject bag checks to ensure no contraband is present on the study floor.
Performs study activities such as ECG positioning, exercises, or other study procedures requiring supervision of subjects.
Performs venipuncture, capillary, and/or IV specimens from study subjects according to established protocol and maintains aseptic technique.
Performs proper and accurate sample management, including collection, identification, transport, and/or processing of biological samples.
Performs dose verification, assisting Clinical Research Nurses during dose administration to accurately verify subject identity and dosing labeling as an additional quality check.
Performs and records physical measurements including height, weight, and BMI calculation.
Performs and records vital sign measurements including blood pressure, pulse oximetry, heart rate, temperature, and respirations.
Places ECG electrodes and leads accurately to ensure precise telemetry monitoring.
Performs additional task list items as delegated and supervised by Charge Staff.

Participant Care and Safety

Follows the progress of volunteers and provides for their care, comfort, and safety by attending to their needs during study participation.
Reports any subject complaints or adverse events immediately to Charge Staff or Clinical Research Nurses to ensure appropriate evaluation and treatment.
Maintains awareness of participant safety and welfare throughout assigned clinical procedures and study activities.

Study Documentation and Training

Reviews Study Specific Trainings and applicable protocols for a thorough understanding of study procedures as they apply to the role.
Ensures the Delegation of Authority/Training Log for each study is completed properly and in a timely manner.
Creates and maintains accurate records of all protocol activities and events as delegated and trained.
Performs and records data entry via computer systems while conducting timed clinical procedures.

Compliance and Quality

Keeps abreast of SOPs, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), ICH guidelines, state and national laws, and ethical standards.
Observes and maintains all HIPAA, OSHA, Exposure Control, and Emergency Response requirements in accordance with applicable training.
Participates in quality assurance of clinical research projects and initiates the need for same as it impacts clinical practice.
Performs assigned responsibilities in accordance with protocol requirements, regulatory requirements, SOPs, scope of practice, and current training status.

Education and Experience

Required

Phlebotomy Certificate or associated real-world (on-the-job training) experience required.
BLS certification required within 6 months of hire or promotion date.

Preferred

Associate's Degree in a scientific/medical discipline desirable.
Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant certification highly desirable.

Spaulding Clinical Research management has the discretion to hire personnel with a combination of experience and education which may vary from the above listed skills and qualifications.
