About this role

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a limited-term (through June 2027) Core Project Preparator to assist with a major project to reorganize its collections storage spaces in conjunction with the creation of a major new ongoing exhibition on Jewish American culture.

Reporting to the Head Preparator and working closely with the Collections Manager and Core Project Registrar, this individual will perform a range of skilled and semi-skilled duties involving the packing, storage, transport, and care of artifacts and works of art in the Skirball’s 30,000-object, museum collection.

The compensation for this full-time, limited-term position is $30.29/hr.

Responsibilities:

  • Use museum best-practice methods to handle, move, pack, and install artwork and objects
  • Build crates and other transport materials for objects and artwork
  • Work with storage company as assigned to move items to offsite storage
  • Safely handle and maintain art, artifacts, and ephemera

Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes:

  • Strong working knowledge and skills of fabrication and production techniques and in the preparation, installation/deinstallation, and care/handling of valuable objects in a museum or gallery
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work well in both a team environment and independently
  • Ability to multi-task and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
