The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As Waste Management Driver, is responsible for the daily operation of a refuse and recycling collection vehicle in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.  You represent San Antonio Zoo® with the highest of integrity onsite. You are also instrumental in assisting the Maintenance team in the relocation of product and materials when needed. 

 

As a part of Zoo Waste Management, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people in San Antonio. Here, you will make an impact by:

 

  • Inspecting vehicle to ensure proper mechanical functioning and prepares it for daily use.
  • Collect refuse and recyclable materials on assigned routes and transport them to appropriate sites.
  • Removes trash bags from all designated service areas. 
  • Cleans truck daily after operation.
  • Safe operation of Zoo grounds vehicles.
  • Ability to learn safe operation of manual equipment: skid steers with all related attachments, forklifts, backhoes, etc. 
  • This position does not require a CDL certification.
  • This position requires early morning availability.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Constantly exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.

Your Skills and Expertise  

To set you up for success in this role from day one, the San Antonio Zoo recommends the following skills/qualifications:

 

  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and occasional after-hour assignment.
  • Able to understand, foresee, and apply necessary safety precautions. Applicable to the Zoo environment.
  • High school diploma or GED certification.
  • Ability to safely operate assigned vehicles.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid state issued driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • At least one (1) year of driving experience.
  • Ability to safely maneuver a 6-yard dump truck in tight areas.
