About this role

Technical Writer drafts, edits, and maintains a repository of security policies, procedures, guidelines, handbooks, and best practices.  Proactively manages timelines and meets all deadlines. Collaborates daily with the Doc/Policy team and participates in team level document reviews and revisions. Collaborates with security subject matter experts to gather accurate and up-to-date information. Translates complex cybersecurity concepts into clear and concise language for a diverse audience (technical and non-technical). Ensures documentation is well-organized, easy to navigate, and adheres to organizational style guides. Develops and maintains user guides, training materials, and other communication pieces related to security policies. Keeps existing policies up-to-date and is responsible for reviewing, updating, and maintaining security policies as regulations change.


Responsibilities:

  • Technical Writer drafts, edits, and maintains a repository of security policies, procedures, guidelines, handbooks, and best practices. 
  • Proactively manages timelines and meets all deadlines.
  • Collaborates daily and participates in team level document reviews and revisions.
  • Collaborates with security subject matter experts to gather accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Translates complex cybersecurity concepts into clear and concise language for a diverse audience (technical and non-technical).
  • Ensures documentation is well-organized, easy to navigate, and adheres to style guides.
  • Develops and maintains user guides, training materials, and other communication pieces related to security policies.
  • Keeps existing policies up-to-date and is responsible for reviewing, updating, and maintaining policies as regulations change.


Technical Skills:

  • Highly adept and proficient with MS Office products. 
  • Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Capability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment with high attention to detail.
  • Collaborates with security subject matter experts to gather accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Translates complex cybersecurity concepts into clear and concise language for a diverse audience (technical and non-technical).
  • Evaluate the user feedback to retrieve information on documentation and use it to enhance usability.
  • Experience with technical writer and documentation concepts and standards (e.g., accessibility standards).
  • Knowledge with RMF, NIST, and other federal cybersecurity policies.


Skills:

  • Ability to work cooperatively at technical and professional level with developers, engineers, and managers on system teams.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks and duties simultaneously while effectively coordinating and ensuring that scheduled delivery dates and milestones are achieved.
  • Able to communicate effectively in an accurate and concise manner through written and verbal means to project leadership and teams.
  •  Ability to take initiative on assigned tasks and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work and collaborate as part of an integrated team with diverse backgrounds.


Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in English, Communications, Technical Communication, Science or Engineering, Business/Professional Writing
  • 5+ years of relevant experience

Preferred certifications: Sec+, CGRC, GSEC, SSCP
