Saber Power Services is seeking an experienced Engineer III Lead – Transmission to provide technical leadership for the engineering and design of overhead and underground transmission line projects ranging from 69kV through 765kV. This position serves as the lead engineer on complex transmission projects, overseeing engineering design, mentoring junior engineers, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with client requirements and industry standards.


The Engineer III Lead serves as a technical authority within the Transmission Engineering group, driving engineering excellence, supporting business development efforts, and promoting continuous improvement in design practices and project execution.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Lead Engineer for transmission line projects from conceptual planning through detailed design, construction support, and project closeout. 
  • Lead the engineering and design of overhead and underground transmission line projects ranging from 69kV to 765kV. 
  • Perform and review engineering calculations including conductor selection, structure loading, sag and tension analysis, line ratings, clearance analysis, foundation loading, and structural design coordination. 
  • Develop and review transmission line plans, profiles, staking sheets, construction packages, and technical specifications. 
  • Provide technical leadership and engineering oversight to Engineer I, Engineer II, designers, and drafters. 
  • Coordinate project execution with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental, survey, permitting, and project management teams. 
  • Perform engineering quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews to ensure compliance with client standards, company procedures, and applicable industry codes. 
  • Resolve complex engineering challenges by evaluating alternatives and developing practical, cost-effective solutions. 
  • Review vendor drawings, technical submittals, engineering reports, and construction documents. 
  • Participate in client meetings, technical presentations, and engineering reviews while serving as the primary technical contact on assigned projects. 
  • Support proposal development by preparing engineering scopes, technical approaches, labor estimates, and project schedules. 
  • Assist Engineering Management with workload planning, resource forecasting, and project staffing recommendations. 
  • Mentor junior engineers through technical coaching, design reviews, and professional development activities. 
  • Support Engineer-in-Training (EIT) employees pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure. 
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), reviewing field changes, and resolving construction issues. 
  • Conduct field investigations, constructability reviews, and site visits as required. 
  • Stay current with evolving transmission engineering practices, software, utility standards, and industry regulations. 
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, design standards, and project execution efficiencies. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university. 
  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive transmission line engineering experience. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe. 
  • Demonstrated experience serving as the lead engineer on complex transmission line projects. 
  • Extensive experience with transmission voltage levels ranging from 69kV through 765kV. 
  • Strong working knowledge of NESC, ASCE Manual 74, ASCE 10, IEEE standards, and utility engineering practices. 
  • Advanced experience with transmission engineering software including PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, TOWER, or equivalent. 
  • Experience using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other engineering drafting software. 
  • Experience supporting EPC, utility, consulting engineering, or electric transmission organizations preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Expert understanding of overhead and underground transmission line engineering principles. 
    • Strong knowledge of transmission structures, foundations, conductors, insulators, hardware, and associated equipment. 
    • Proven leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to guide multidisciplinary engineering teams. 
    • Strong understanding of engineering project execution, scheduling, and quality management. 
    • Excellent analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities. 
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, utilities, contractors, and internal stakeholders. 
    • Ability to manage multiple complex projects while balancing competing priorities. 
    • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. 
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and engineering document management systems.
