Engineer II Transmission

Saber Power Services is seeking an Engineer II – Transmission to support the engineering, analysis, and design of overhead and underground transmission line projects ranging from 69kV through 765kV. This position is responsible for performing engineering calculations, preparing construction packages, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting projects from conceptual design through construction.
The Engineer II works under the direction of senior engineers while independently managing portions of projects and mentoring junior engineers and designers. This position requires sound engineering judgment, technical competency, and the ability to coordinate multiple projects while ensuring compliance with client specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform engineering design for overhead and underground transmission line projects ranging from 69kV through 765kV.
- Prepare engineering calculations including structure loading, conductor selection, line ratings, sag and tension, clearance analysis, and foundation loading.
- Develop transmission line plans, profiles, staking sheets, and construction packages.
- Perform routing studies and evaluate design alternatives based on engineering, environmental, permitting, and constructability considerations.
- Coordinate with structural, civil, geotechnical, survey, environmental, and permitting teams throughout project execution.
- Review vendor drawings, engineering calculations, technical specifications, and construction documents.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical memorandums, design summaries, and project documentation.
- Support the preparation of construction cost estimates, material takeoffs, and project schedules.
- Participate in internal design reviews and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes.
- Support field activities including site visits, construction support, and engineering evaluations during installation.
- Assist with resolving technical issues during design and construction.
- Communicate effectively with clients, utilities, contractors, and internal project teams.
- Support proposal development by providing engineering input, technical recommendations, and labor estimates.
- Mentor Engineer I personnel, designers, and drafters by providing technical guidance and project support.
- Stay current with applicable industry standards, utility requirements, and emerging transmission technologies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum 3–5 years of transmission line engineering experience.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required or ability to obtain shortly after hire.
- Progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred.
- Experience with transmission voltage levels ranging from 69kV through 765kV.
- Working knowledge of NESC, ASCE Manual 74, ASCE 10, IEEE standards, and applicable utility design practices.
- Experience with transmission line design software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, TOWER, or similar programs preferred.
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other CAD software is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of transmission line engineering principles and utility design standards.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of overhead transmission structures, conductors, insulators, foundations, and associated hardware.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and utility standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while meeting project deadlines.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
