We serve a diverse group of institutional customers such as public transit agencies, governmental entities, school districts, health care providers, and social service agencies, as well as private customers. About the Role

RydeTrans keeps East Bay communities moving — including riders who depend on our paratransit service to get to work, medical appointments, and everyday life.

As a Mechanic in our Berkeley shop, you'll keep our fleet safe and road-ready by performing maintenance and repairs on paratransit buses, vans, shuttle buses, and other fleet vehicles. As RydeTrans continues to grow, you'll help support both our existing fleet and the introduction of new vehicle platforms and technologies.

What You’ll Do

Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel and gasoline engines and related systems on buses, vans, and shuttles.

Perform electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting.
Use a range of scan tools and diagnostic equipment.
Complete preventive maintenance and safety inspections.
Respond to road calls in the Hayward area.
Keep accurate repair and inspection records (Word, Outlook, and maintenance systems).
Work both on your own and as part of the team.

Qualifications
ASE Certification, or 8 years of relevant diesel/automotive repair experience.
If hired without ASE certification, ability to obtain it within one year of hire.
Strong electrical diagnostic skills and familiarity with common scan tools.
Basic computer skills (Word, Outlook).
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to Have (Preferred Qualifications)

Class B or Class A commercial driver’s license with air brakes endorsement.

Transit or heavy-duty fleet maintenance experience.

Physical Requirements

This role involves lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs individually, with heavier items handled using team-lift or mechanical assistance; exerting up to 50 lbs of force to push and pull; and standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and working in confined spaces and shop/outdoor conditions.
