General Summary

1. Assists registered pharmacist in the routine formulation, preparation and dispensing of medication orders to inpatients and outpatients.

1. Rounds to the nursing stations as scheduled.  Delivers medications and IV solutions after they have been checked by a registered Pharmacist.  Retrieves physician orders and communication slips.

1. Screens incoming orders to determine routing to IV room and/or dispensing area. STAT and NOW orders are immediately brought to the attention of the RPh.

1. Issues supplies to other hospital departments to improve various department programs and procedures.

1. Operates Meditech Pharmacy Modules as trained

1. Recommends to the Director of Pharmacy ways to improve various departments programs and procedures.

1. Assists in training technician trainees.

1. Demonstrates the use of correct telephone communication technique both in receiving and initiating calls.

1. Answers questions from hospital personnel and patients appropriately or directs them to the proper authority.

1. Attends pharmacy staff meeting and in-service programs.

1. Maintains clean and orderly work area.

1. Prepare IV Admixtures as trained

1. Repackages drugs in unit dose containers and has them checked by RPh before releasing into Pharmacy stock.

Other Marginal Job Functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

1. High school graduate

1. Good communication and interpersonal skills

1. Must be licensed by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations as a Pharmacy Technician.
